Waxlip orchids (Glossodia/Caladenia major*) near the Wonboyn River, NSW. Fairly common orchid at this location - sometimes growing alongside the closely related Glossodia minor (Caladenia glossodia*).

*Some recent reviews of the genus return the 2 x Glossodia species back into Caladenia #orchids

You won't see a map like this very often on iNaturalist! the only record of 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴𝘢 𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘢 (with its characteristic moustache) in the whole of the UK! non-biting midges (Chironomidae) are extremely underrecorded at species level! #taxonomy #chironomidae #biodiversity

All but four of New Zealand’s 120 lizard species are threatened or at risk. But little consideration is given to lizards during most land development projects.
NZ’s native lizards are at risk from land development – future policy must ensure better protection

A cold night (4°C) after a cool, grey day meant not many moths last night (just 6/6).

We did get another beautiful male Orgyia athlophora visiting though. The female of this species is flightless. A species only found in the southwest of WA
