Lex needs to find a sense of security & family among the Katorgans, specifically with Daemrin. It's important for her to feel like she's finally safe when she's with him.

Really good thread and valuable to read with regards to genAI and how it will never provide what art provides. I easily get into this flow state with writing, which is why I overwork myself and find it difficult to step away/take breaks.

in a session with my therapist, she was commenting how she can't draw a stick figure -- then recalled a time when she could envision exactly what she wanted and it came out easily on the canvas. and she had no idea how she did it.

I was like, yeah, the flow state. you know, like athletes and gamers

I feel like I've had a very busy year ever since last December. 😅 The writing challenge is something my writers group is doing, where we each set our own goal to complete in November—basically, our own NaNo. I know there are tons of other challenges happening right now or soon to replace NaNo.

My cosmic horror/thriller is with beta readers right now, so I'm plotting out a romantic space fantasy that I'm hoping to start drafting next month as part of a big writing challenge. 30k words in 30 days, which will not be nearly enough words to finish, but it should be a good start.

Since my books will contain only the stories, characters, etc. that interest me, I hope they will provide an accurate look at my tastes, interests, and creative mind long after I'm gone. I hope my voice comes out strongly on the page and my storytelling preferences are conveyed well. #pretendpanel

More recently, Daemrin's older brother died on a job two years before the story begins. Daemrin blames himself for the death and has been struggling with the guilt ever since.

As for Daemrin, he wasn't born Katorgan. He and his older brother grew up in a sprawling slum on the planet Taltos, were sold as little kids to a drug lord to pay off their father's debt, and endured years of harsh working conditions before the Katorgan Warchief saved and adopted them.
