That's why the original idea that they are battery (acid) powered bio weapons worked so well. Drop them in clear out the population their batteries run out and the planet is yours. All the other films spoilt it.

Still half thinking about the facehugger size issue. How did it evolve to be human head sized? Who was it feeding on originally?
(Obviously they just didn't consider it in the film design and it's a macguffin, but it's a nice thing to mull)

Space jockey is 15ft tall, the face hugger would have to be about three times the size to attach
