My essay on disability, queerness, sex, and optics is in Vol. 4 of Sensitive Content Magazine:

Photo of Hayden, a white man with a mustache and hairy chest, armpit, and stomach, undressed and lying back on a couch on top of a multicolored woven blanket. A rectangular title card reads "Deaf & Undressed" in bold black text.

Hey folks, I'm moving to the Altadena/Pasadena area in California in November.

Since I'm uprooting myself from a life lived entirely in Indiana up until now, I'm hoping to find some friends in Los Angeles to make this major life event a little less scary and isolating.

So, hit me up. 🫶

I have loved being the Adina Talve-Goodman Fellow this year. It's been so rewarding, encouraging, and motivating as a writer who's been struggling with craft for the last few years. If you have any questions about applying, just ask!

Also, the deadline was extended to October 13!

Greta Thunberg speaks to the press after being released from illegal detainment in Israel: "I could talk for a very, very long time about our mistreatment and abuses in our imprisonment. Trust me, but that is not the story.”

And now you do what they told ya.

Now you're under control.

Some of you kids have been playing "Killing in the Name" on Guitar Hero since 2006 and still grew up to vote for fascists.

Have you taken your Tylenol today? 🩵

I'm so tired of sharing a planet with people who only dream of escaping from it, who treat the earth as fundamentally evil and disposable. So fucking sad.

The call is coming from inside the house, folks.

You all love to blame victims all the time until it's an American Nazi literally dying from the kind of violence he endorsed and the instruments of warfare he worshipped. Weird.
haymayden.bsky.social
Too many of you lamenting "political violence" today have been silent about Gaza.
haymayden.bsky.social
I've also been thinking about this.

What are the known Zionist literary magazines/journals? I've taken The Atlantic, Guernica, and Gulf Coast off my submission list, but are there others?

I like the newsletter model and would appreciate more than a 300 character limit.

Ease and access is a concern for me regardless of the platform I use, but that's really sad to hear about substack. Maybe I'll try to track down some previous substack users who've transitioned to other platforms.
haymayden.bsky.social
But do other platforms have the UX design ease or user base? That's a concern for me, too. I want to be considerate of which platforms I'm supporting, but I also want to build something people can easily find, access, and use.
haymayden.bsky.social
Seems like there are drawbacks to every single one. 😵‍💫

Thanks for the advice. I'll do some exploring.

I have my own website, but have been a little overwhelmed with building it into what I need. Accessibility is the most important thing to me, which is why I'm interested in platforms designed for complex text and alt format content.
haymayden.bsky.social
Oh! I didn't actually hear about this. I'll look into that and consider other tools.
haymayden.bsky.social
Or maybe they've never gone out of style and I just didn't appreciate them enough.

I'm starting a substack because blogs are back??

Hey friends. My husband is looking for data science jobs in Los Angeles as we prepare to move out west in a couple months. If you have any leads, I'll pass them along to him. Thanks!

Why are we so desperate to help them keep their straight identity intact, as if it's something precious, even when it's at our expense? Even as they simultaneously use us and reject us?

What does it mean to be a homosexual who covets straightness?
haymayden.bsky.social
What is with gay men's obsession with "straight" men? Why are we so preoccupied with protecting men who fuck us and would never ever admit to loving us?
