I live in Alaska and love hiking, reading, knitting, genealogy, and taking lots of pictures of everything I see out on my walks and hikes. I’m lucky to be the guardian of the best dog out there. 私は少し日本語を話します & dw i’n dysgu Cymraeg hefyd.

I found these today in Anchorage and haven’t seen them before. They’re not in my new Alaska mushroom guide, but some online digging makes me think they’re violet fairy cups or purple jellydisc. Maybe Ascocoryne cylichnium?

I’m not sure what this little slime mold is. The only thing in my guidebook that resembles it is Arcyria incarnata, carnival candy slime mold. It was on the underside of a log in the Anchorage woods.

Here are a couple closer pictures, with one that I cut open. There were several other species on the log, I’ll post photos this evening.

I can check! I’ll be able to find the log again.

Tiny little slime mold? Maybe Trichia decipiens or another Trichia sp? Spotted on a log in the woods in Anchorage.

I’m not sure what kind of cup fungi these are that I came across on a neighborhood dog walk, but they’re really cool.

A single blob of wolf’s milk slime mold (Lycogala epidendrum) on tree roots. I just learned that it’s not a fungus but a type of amoeba! I can hear Mr. Spock now: “Fascinating”.

A little wood frog (Lithobates sylvaticus) that I saw on a dog walk this morning. One of two frog species that live in Alaska, it’s the only one that lives above the Arctic Circle. They freeze during the winter and thaw in spring.
