The Hillsborough Police Department will take your unwanted medications between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Hillsborough Pharmacy, 110 Boone Square St. The event is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Town of Hillsborough is committed to raising breast cancer awareness by illuminating town facilities pink throughout the month of October.

The 52 pinwheels represent the number of domestic violence-related deaths that have occurred in North Carolina this year. Wear purple on Oct. 17 to raise awareness and show support for victims.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Stop by the Police Station Annex, 137 N. Churton St., to place a ribbon on the board for someone you know who has been affected by domestic violence.

A contractor for the town is expected to begin mowing water and sewer easements on Oct. 27.

Today is Indigenous Peoples Day!

In 2015, Hillsborough joined the Tribal Council of the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation in recognizing the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples Day.

Rod received a town innovation award this spring for saving the town about $100,000 in future elevator replacement costs at the Police Station.

License plate readers are entering crime show dialogue and Hillsborough investigations. The Police Department will install 10 cameras throughout town. They will join about 40 readers already in use by others in Orange County. The Police Summit on Oct. 9 will have a brief overview. buff.ly/INBFdQq

The Town of Hillsborough will begin its seasonal collection of loose leaves in November. Between November and the end of January, Hillsborough residents can rake their leaves to the side of the street for collection.
