The summer of 1988 would see him winning two England caps versus Australia and Fiji. Evans would join Coventry as club captain in 1992, but rejoined Tigers in 1994 for eight additional appearances. His last game was against Northampton in September 1995.

The winger would start the 1983 John Player Cup final and miss only two games in the 1987-88 Courage League championship season. In 1986 he represented England in the Sport Aid International Sevens tournament in Cardiff

Joining from Hinckley, his debut was at Saracens in October 1981. Evans made enough of an impact to play for The Rest in an England trial in 1982. He would score 170 tries for the club, positioning him in second place on the all-time list behind Percy Lawrie (206).

On retiring from playing in 2018 he moved to a coaching role at the club, became an assistant coach at Benetton, and the defence coach with the Georgian national team.

A first Leicester appearance was against Exeter in September 2011. Salvi played in the 2012 and 2013 Premiership finals. His last game for the Tigers was at Bath in May 2015, and he left for Exeter.
