I lived in Manila for a year during the Ferdinand Marcos regime & there was martial law at that time. Soldiers with rifles roamed the neighborhoods at night to enforce curfew & if you were heard to have said anything bad about Marcos, you were disappeared. His portrait was plastered everywhere.
