Three of my alpha readers read as I finished sections and gave feedback that shaped the story and it was so helpful. It helped me get over the fear of asking for feedback because even I knew it wasn’t final. I wasn’t overly attached to anything in the story!

It should when I get a chance to rework it! I need to do some work along the way to make the end payoff make sense (I always knew how the story ended) when I can get back to writing when my calendar chills out

Yes I love those moments in stories where we get the character’s thoughts or reflections to what’s happening plot wise! Adds a fun dynamic

I wish I had a more polished version but I am firmly in “rough first draft” mode for this one!

And it all came out after alpha feedback from @aiko-aslanian.bsky.social that inspired me to make this more prominent as the inciting incident.

I guess all of book 1 is a how we got here though 😅

Also, Google Docs pulled up every document I have when I searched because my name is Hope. Not helpful.

A deep sense of satisfaction unfurls in my chest as I hear what Coach says. I don’t know if it’s weird to be so proud of myself to have been chosen, but I am honored to have been one of the three out of the fifteen or so upper classmen that could’ve been named Captain. Deep down I knew I wanted it, but I didn’t want to admit it too widely.
Valeria had asked once over the summer if I thought I had a chance, and I said “maybe.”
I just really hope that training on just the weeknights after work this past summer will be sufficient since I spent most weekends with her instead of in the gym.
