They are both wearing Survey Corps uniforms, though the woman’s jacket was removed due to being in shock and unable to breathe properly after an encounter with a titan that grappled her out of the air on her ODM gear. She was rescued by one of her comrades, but fell to the ground, resulting in the bruises and scrapes, as well as her left cheek (not shown) being gashed by her blade.

Her commander tried to comfort her and helped clean her wounds, though nothing seemed to snap her out of the shocked state she was in. He went to clean a spot on her forehead and it turned out to be a bruise. Instinctively he kissed her bruise, which caused her to finally look at him. In the moment, he leaned forward, kissing her lips, catching her off guard and surprising her.
