We were saddened to hear about the death of American trans elder Miss Major Griffin-Gracy. She died yesterday at home, aged 78.

A veteran of Stonewall and a tireless advocate for trans people, sex workers, and the incarcerated, she was a powerful voice for equality and justice.

👏 Congrats to University of Dundee researchers! They recently identified a brand-new molecular target that could pave the way for new treatments for Parkinson’s disease. It is still incurable, but breakthroughs like this bring us one step closer to changing that.👇

Happy Sunday everyone, we hope you have a wonderful day, whatever you choose to do 💜
Image of a landscape with the words: Sunday Thought for the Day:
You don’t need faith in the supernatural to find wonder in the world. Humanism is about recognising that meaning, kindness, and connection come from us — from the way we treat one another, and the care we show for our shared home.

Whether you’re walking in the rain, making a cup of tea, or spending time with loved ones today — that’s humanism in action: finding the extraordinary in the everyday.

It’s not just non-religious pupils who are affected by the lack of an independent right to opt out of religious observance in Scotland. At a recent Holyrood meeting, Leah Rivka from the Jewish Council of Scotland shared how this issue also impacts young people of that faith, and why change is needed

📚 This week’s #HumanistHero is Philip Pullman, author of the His Dark Materials series.✨ His books are profoundly humanist: they celebrate curiosity & human capacity for growth, while taking a swipe at authoritarianism, with the mysterious substance "Dust" symbolising consciousness and free thought.

📣 We think young people should have the independent right to opt out of Religious Observance (worship) NOT Religious and Moral Education (RME). We support RME. It’s important that pupils learn about different beliefs, however preaching is not teaching

🎥 Here’s our CEO explaining why we support RME:

Christian nationalism is one of the first steps on the road to fascism. At a recent London far-right rally, Christian preachers tore up flags that said “Secular Humanism” and “No Religion, "part of a growing movement to fuse politics with religion, roll back rights, and silence non-religious voices.
Image shows a poster that reads "Early Warning Signs Of Fascism: powerful and continuing nationalism, disdain for human rights, identification of enemies as a unifying cause, supremacy of the military, rampant sexism, controlled mass media, obsession with national security, religion and government intertwined, corporate power protected, labor power suppressed, disdain for intellectuals and the arts, obsession with crime and punishment, rampant cronyism and corruption, fraudulent elections" The poster is superimposed on an image of a far-right protester draped in England flags giving a fascist salute.

We were deeply saddened to hear of the recent death of renowned primatologist Jane Goodall, but grateful when we heard that, before she died, she had recorded her last words to share with humanity, in collaboration with Netflix. Her final message is one that deeply resonates with humanist beliefs

Fluorescent proteins can be turned into qubits within cells and could give us a deeper understanding of biology at the nanoscale level.

The happiest of Mondays, everybody!

Science recently made a big leap forward, reminding us how incredible human curiosity and reason are.

🚀 The University of Chicago has created a “fluorescent biological qubit” — basically turning certain proteins in living cells into quantum sensors.

A timely reminder that Christian #nationalism isn’t about faith, it’s about power.

⚖️ They push Ten Commandments displays into classrooms.
💸 Meanwhile, they pass laws that punish the poor and divide communities.

This isn’t piety, it’s politics in disguise.
