the overseas tuition fees are exorbitant, the home office visa fees extortionate, and students are working alongside to finance their studies. it's all very hard to square.

the financial worries were crushing back then, even more so now with the dismantling of humanistic and critical fields of inquiry... it requires so much courage and conviction to do a grad degree now. and for supervisors, so much heavy burden to co-carry and be responsive to.

One curious thing on this site about speaking out against the encroachment of LLMs is that inevitably you get accused of being anti-tech. I don’t hate technology. I’ve used machine learning in my own code before. But I also recognize that oligarchs are so hellbent on pushing this tech for a reason.

don't be fooled by the false binary btw US biomedical research not getting returns and NHS collective drugs price bargain for every patient in the UK. US public won't see the benefits of UK patients no longer having access to certain medications, but big pharma will. this is not about patients.

the goal should be that US prices need to come down, as well as other nations' prices decreasing or staying affordable. it's not either/or. the trump narrative is misleading.
