Can you remind me which episode of Inside No 9 was it you mentioned?
Great show, Robin, thanks for coming!
And you’re unlikely to be gaming with the chief constable.

About fifteen years ago, I dreamt that John Goodman had died. I now get regular instances of thinking he’s actually dead, followed by being pleased to remember that he’s alive.
It sounds great, but train from the frozen north + hotel for 2 nights = £250, which is a bit on the steep side!
Well it’s either just a coincidence in which case just enjoy it, or enjoy the fact that someone must have really enjoyed one of your games last weekend! Either way, that’s great!
First issue I ever read. Seven years old, borrowed from my brother.
though given games go up several months in advance, there’s plenty of scope for players to forget they even signed up in the first place!
Nah it’s very much a personal choice for GMs about whether they want to check for spare players. But the option’s there. The impetus for me is on players to let the con know if they are unable to attend, ….
I’ve run Matrons twice with you playing now, Sue. I feel it must be your turn to run the game!
Job done, guys. Job bloody well done. Thanks for making the magic happen. See you next time!

Caught up with people I know from other Cons, which was nice, and ate far too many tacos, which were excelllent.

Next convention is #contingecy2026 in January. Better start thinking about games for that.

Excelsior!

I thought I’d mostly restrained myself, though I seem to have ended up with two new game books, a starter set, and five adventures. No dice though, so clearly I’ve exercised SOME self control.

Which was a shame, both because I’d prepped games which ended up not being needed, and because I hadn’t signed up to play anything during the times I was supposed to be running those games. So I had more spare time than usual. Which meant more time in the trade hall.

In previous years I’ve run a few of the Games on Demand slots (2 hr taster sessions), and had planned some for this year, but with one thing or another I didn’t end up running any.

I also had fun running a new Superior Six adventure for Comics Code (available from Drivethru RPG). As a first runthrough of the scenario, I wasn’t totally happy with the pacing, and there’s more exposition than I’d like, but with some tweaking, I think it’ll work out ok.

I have survived Tabletop Scotland 2025! #tts2025 Had fun running The Wizards Staff (available as part of the Odd Jobs Microsettings book from Mcguffin & Co. As is usually the case, my players leaned into the absurdity of the situation, and the farce which developed was lovely to behold.

We do tell people who are unable to get into a game that they can leave a number and we’ll call them if a slot frees up, which is I think as close as we can get to closing that gap.

I hate that this made me guffaw, but there you have it.
Literally the second meme I've made in my life.

So nothing tangible in any case. We must be mad to be doing it then, right? Why do an activity with no real reward? Because the game is its own reward, right?

2. Rewards for the PCs. Experience points, levelling up, moving along the career path for the character. A useful way to keep players thinking about how they want their characters to develop.

3. Rewards for the players. Endorphin hits for surviving exciting sessions, that sort of thing.

#RPGaDAY2025 31 - Reward

I guess, when thinking about rewards, three things come to mind.

1. Rewards in-game. Treasure, loot, titles, that sort of thing. Bit old school, but a nice way to keep PCs invested, especially if those PCs have to buy armour, weapons, magic ink.

It’s all just “let’s pretend”, a chance to experience lives that are far different from
my own. And who wouldn’t want to do that?
