A piece I wrote about having a nature deprived childhood.
There don’t seem to be enough articles about working class childhoods which were just a bit dull because you didn’t get out much , and family members were not very enthusiastic.
But you did have picture books of stuffed birds.😊

The first book in the series is absolutely astonishing.

Both my parents were enthusiastic members of choral societies- my father, who was from a Lancashire mining background being particularly fond of opera.
My autodidact tendencies were definitely nurtured in my mainly working class childhood, in the late 60’s . I am very grateful .

Excellent to see the musings of cultural commentator/historian/comedian Stewart Lee, gone from the pages of the Observer, have now reappeared on @thenerve.news. Bravo to the Nervers (nervous?) for giving him a platform. Lees' latest piece on burning flags is here www.thenerve.news/p/stewart-le...
Stewart Lee: The thugs have taken my flag. So I’ve taken theirs
What do you do with a lot of cheap banners hanging from motorway bridges once you’ve torn them down?

Ever since I finished Question Time, Reform have massively been on the attack.

Including a rant from Richard Tice entirely designed to distract from Reform and Russia.

Everyone should know about Nathan Gill, the bribes from Russia and the link to Reform.

Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell is marvellous.

I am delighted that Disney have the rights but above all this is a gripping story, which echoes without direct imitation the greats of children’s literature , has fantastic animals, a heart, snot, and contemporary bite.

I am so tempted to take a look at this on my way back to London.

Today, The Word for World: The Maps of Ursula K. Le Guin opens at AA Gallery in London! Curated by Sarah Shin and Harriet Jennings, the exhibition presents a selection of Ursula's maps, including some that have never been exhibited before.
A photo of the entrance to The Word for World exhibition, with two banners hanging vertically down outside the doorway to a brick building with white-paned windows. A row of bicycles are parked in front. The banners are purple and white and say the name of the exhibition and Ursula K. Le Guin's name. A cord-wrapped rock rests on a vivid blue background next to a map of and program for The Word for World exhibition. A stack of copies of The Word for World book, which shows the title in vivid blue against a black cloth cover.

It is a whole year now, and has been up and down due to a few health issues for me , and more so for my parents, but my reading, book reviewing, walking and occasionally poem writing has kept me busy😊

Questions I ponder of a morning.

Why is he always glistening?

Normally you look at ppl’s hands to see how much work they’ve done to their face but here, the skin on his hands is softer than on his face and neck.

In a world where Christianity is being kidnapped by nationalists it is good to see these little reflection cards inspired by Anglo Saxon Christianity.
St Cuthbert, St Bede and St Hilda would like a word.

That might be too tempting.
But there is a cafe with cakes in Studland but by not bringing any cash I put paid to that temptation

A mild and overcast day.
One of the many things I love about living in Swanage is that our flat is equidistant between the town bakery and the top of Ballard Down.

Well, it's official. After our paper last year (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....), the Slender-billed Curlew is officially declared Extinct today.
