It's been a pretty bad summer for me here in Washington, but you know what's been great? WORK. I have the opportunity to bring you EIGHT count em EIGHT glorious financial literacy videos.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMrA...

In this one, Darnell and I play scammers who teach you the ropes.

May we hear 1 (one) freebie good opinion™ please, Kit?

She thought the stickers were very cute, but could not accept one, because that would be bribery. TAKE NOTES, SECRETARY NOEM! That's how you serve the public!

And I explained myself to the agent that these were to honor my team's love of fantasy novels, which led her to very excitedly tell me about her book club and how she'd just read her very first fantasy book and really enjoyed it.

however I do not need to be vague about why I got pulled by TSA on the way out; my wonderful friend Alyssa designed these patches for me, to celebrate our english language arts team—and I had a very suspicious-looking packet of stickers and patches in a tight little cylinder.
my backpack with a 3-inch circular patch: a blue dragon twines around a red pencil. The text around the image reads KHAN BOOKWYRMS | HIC SUNT DRACONES

(which means "here be dragons" in latin)

And then we had a little chat all the way through security, until I got yanked outta line YET AGAIN for something suspicious in my bag (happened on the way out), but this time it was because of the charleston treats I got for Jillian. I must be vague in case she sees this.

and the lady behind me was like, "I'm so sick of this fucking circus. I cannot stand these people treating this country like their plaything."
icarusfloats.bsky.social
YES. Greetings from the airport in charleston (grievously delayed, boohoo, boohoo), where Sec'y Noem's video was playing on a loop in the security line. I scoffed SO HARD that it actually caused me to make a friend? I murmured, "Oh so the Hatch Act is just little baby stuff to you, Kristi?"

Thank you. It looks like it's going to be really, really cool!

Second question, in case I ever have a living space with enough room for a quilt-planning wall: can you tell me a little more about your command hook-and-grommeted-grid setup for vertical quilt planning?

to wit: does Direct File still exist?

www.irs.gov/filing/irs-d...

I'm on the website, and it appears to indicate that it's still up, but I read a few articles suggesting that it had been axed!

Lauren, very important followup: are you familiar with Marvin Suggs and his Muppaphone?
icarusfloats.bsky.social
I have often said of that company that their strategy hinges on interpolating a software layer between the public and a government service that would otherwise be free.

Two questions, Counsel:

1. If you could do the aforesaid bonking, what's yr weapon of choice
2. what sound would intuit make
icarusfloats.bsky.social
Wow wow! Can you explain the process a little more? Like, you seam-ripped all those panels apart to separate the stars out again?
icarusfloats.bsky.social
Mine is sweetbreads. I'm such a little freak for sweetbreads.
icarusfloats.bsky.social
I mean what else could it be?

It wouldn't be eggèd

All this is to say: I will mourn Hollywood when it dies. But is there a way to keep the best of it and jettison the worst of it by making a hundred thousand hollyswood? A studio in every community theater, an auteur in every girl scout troop?

I know that's a little BE KIND, REWIND of me.

Nobody's got leverage on Marisa Kabas or Josh Marshall, so the Handbasket and Talking Points Memo can publish whatever they like. My podcast friends don't have to worry about pissing off David Ellison, so they can publish whatever they like.
icarusfloats.bsky.social
I look back at some of my friends that are still in the podcast game, and they've flirted with big money but mostly held onto their own shit, and they've made good lives for themselves and their production companies.

Nobody has leverage over them! I see the same thing in indie journalism, too!
icarusfloats.bsky.social
I was in podcasts for fifteen years—much of it indie, some of it pro—and I watched the medium soak up a ton of venture capital, engage in some really time- and capital-intensive projects, and then fall prey to waning investor attention as the limerence wore off.

The future is indie!

I want to fight you on this, but no part of media consolidation over the past two decades pushes against your premise. So I'll concede it.

Right now, Sora is something that can defeat Vine; we can see these astonishing and frequently awful 10-second clips. I can extrapolate from there, sure.

Friends don't let friends, etc. Roger that, Kit: 'cha boy isn't interested in listeria.

Hivemind: I'm flying out of terminal E tomorrow at DCA, and I'll get there with plenty of time.

Terminal E is the topmost terminal on the map; WHAT SHOULD I GET FOR LUNCH? What should I take with me on my noon flight?
