i think theres a lot of different ways to tackle it. i saw someone mention the stanley parable, but my first thought was frog fractions, which goes about it totally different. i think you just need to make the player feel like theyre in on a secret and suddenly it feels very off the path

it doesnt help that, as opposed to the rapid fire comedy of movies like airplane or naked gun, austin powers will take up a whole scene to gamble on a single joke. if it doesn't land, the whole scene feels wasted

rewatched the first austin powers the other day and i've never really considered how comedy can become dated not necessarily by its content but rather entirely through its presentation. very dated style of delivery that ruins jokes that might still land otherwise
