How much have people written before actually writing their first draft? I had an disagreement about it and realized that I have no clue how do people approach writing.

I wrote million plus words as practice and now I wrote my first official draft.

Am I do it it wrong?

One of those things you should have done, came up. You should try to break it up in some type of chapters as a draft of 40k words when it is written as if by James Joyce is a task, not herculean but pretty damn near to one.

Personal claim but still. 40k is decent for 24 days of writing. I could push on but it feels wrong to try to expand it forcefully into a longer story and there is the editing still so it might push it upwards towards the 50k limit. But mostly, it just feels right as it is now.

Now couple of hours later the text is 39177 words and well into the novella length and also in a point where it could naturally end as the first book of Pittance Box novellas. Personally, I think if I had written it in less deep format, it would be about double the length.

Mulling over Pittance Box

Seems 1500 words per day on average is my writing rate but on few days I wrote nothing so rate on days I did write is around 2000+ words. After 24 days I have now 37966 words down. Good rate or bad, it is the one I can do.
