We end with reflections by @ecrone.bsky.social : How can we move from knowledge to action? Youth undergo formative changes: they explore and take risks, develop social relationships and need autonomy and respect. How do they use this to become an engaged citizen in society? #HealthystartTRM
Jeroen van der Waal continues with a commentary from a sociologist point of view. What roles do class and social economic status play in how we express, understand, verbalize and regulate emotions? How does this affect how we operationalize and measure our constructs of interest? #HealthystartTRM
Two of our participants, Gijs Schumacher and Catrin Finkenauer, try out the recorded delivery method for themselves. Turns out to be much more difficult than anticipated to not judge but merely listen and pass on the message. #HealthystartTRM
Frederiek Nabben from foundation Time out provides a commentary on Bart Bekkers talk. How can we connect art and science? What role might verbatim theater play? What kind of commonalities, differences and methods can we capatilize on? #HealthystartTRM
We continue in the afternoon with a talk by Bert Bakker. Adolescents see many threats in society, but also many opportunities. Should we be worried about young people and their role in politics and polarization? Or do they just use different forms of engagement? #HealthystartTRM
Wouter van den Bos provides a commentary on the prior two talks. How can technology be used to create movements and "scenius" for change? What do we want to build together? How can we ensure and center design around childrens and youth's rights? #HealthystartTRM
We continue with a talk by Ili Ma. Youth often encounter news on social media. But what if they come across misinformation? Differently aged youth may be particular susceptible if persuasion techniques are used. How can interventions be tailored to age-specific sensitivities? #HealthystartTRM
Third and final day of the #HealthystartTRM! We start with @candiceodgers.bsky.social argueing that we are stuck in how we study and see adolescents and their technology use - and that now is the time to better understand and support them in the digital age.

On the second day we continued with inspiring science talks on prosocial behavior and trust by @suzannevdgroep.bsky.social and Lydia Krabbendam. Then Martijn from youth organization Lieve Mark reflected on their findings with some examples of their student-led studies #HealthyStartTRM
We end the day with a commentary and youth perspective by Lotte Prins, President of the Dutch National Youth Council. Youth often feel misunderstood by society, but also feel motivated to be agents of change. The Council developed a national youth strategy to guide action. #HealthystartTRM
Gijs Schumacher from the Hot Politics Lab provides a commentary on the previous talks. How do we get people together to start collective action? Youth want to stand out, but this need for distinction can cause polarization. How can we elicit the right emotions in interventions? #HealthystartTRM
Next, Sander Thomaes explains how we can reframe responsibility that youth take around climate change as "good ancestry". How can youth engage in pro-environmental engagement? What motivates them to do so? How do they start to deal with future threats and uncertainty? #HealthystartTRM
Anita Harrewijn offers a more clinical perspective. Adolescence is the age period where many internalizing problems start. Fearful and inhibited temperaments can biase social exclusion and social error processing to fuel anxiety. But how can youth overcome anxiety? #HealthystartTRM
Anna van Duijvenvoorde shows that the young brain is an excellent social learner. But is it also a motivated learner? Why do youth extert effort and when and why are they motivated to engage in challenging behaviors? Agency, competence and belonging might be key needs to fulfill. #HealthystartTRM
Next, foundation Time Out performed a pilot theatre show about polarization. We experienced how recorded delivery can be a powerfull form of experiental learning and perspective taking. #HealthystartTRM
During a lunch walk we came across Artist Rene Jacobs, who co-creates the Vermeer artwork "Gezicht op Delft" with all the inhabitants of Delft, consisting of more than 110.000 figurines that represent them. Inspiring methaphor for the meeting and our challenge! #HealthystartTRM
Milene Goncalves and Susanna Osinga provide an introduction to design practices. How can you solve challenges and problems, in an integrative, iterative and future oriented way, using human-centered methods? From reframing problems, to testing solutions by reflection and testing. #HealthystartTRM
Martijn Janse of foundation Lieve Mark provides a commentary. How do loneliness, uncertainty and polarization affect students and young adults in particular? What world would they want to live in? How visible are their contributions now? Should they think globally, act locally? #HealthystartTRM
Next, Lydia Krabbendam explores trust and reciprocity. If I align my goals with yours, will you do the same? Whether you can trust someone always comes with a level of uncertainty. Trust can be risky, but also lead to higher gains and more opportunities to learn and explore. #HealthystartTRM
Day 2 of the #HealthystartTRM! Co-organizer @suzannevdgroep.bsky.social kicks off the first session of the day: How do adolescents balance outcomes for self and others? What skills can help them achieve this balance? And what are mechanisme through which adolescents can become change makers?
It was interesting to see how differently all of us approached this creative challenge and what aspects of the talks resonated most. Excited to see where we go from here and what tomorrow has in store! #HealthystartTRM
We are rounding up a great first day with an interactive design thinking session by Susanna Osinga. We learn to use visualization tools to reflect on all the sessions, to integrate the knowledge we gained and see where we could go next. #HealthystartTRM
Wilco van Dijk provides a commentary to round up the content sessions of the day. How do you ensure diverse voices (of youth and stakeholders) are heard? When are youth THE experts and when do they provide merely additional expertise? What is the optimal level of participation? #HealthystartTRM
Esther Rozendaal focuses on a participatory approach with children. What do they need to optimally utilize opportunities of digital media and effectively manage their risks? Through co-creation, children explore their online world, analyze risks and develop potential solutions. #HealthystartTRM
Lysanne te Brinke (co-organizer of the meeting) explains that youth experience a large gap between their need to contribute and the perceived opportunities to do so. Using youth participatory designs helps to uncover what youth find meaningful, and how we can decrease the gap. #HealthystartTRM
