I appreciate a naivete if I'm being honest. I want the system to work in a way that makes sense to not funnel power. I wish they'd break them apart and perhaps have a system were we break the police into various factions that do different jobs and tasks. Like court and judge stuff wtc

It's not that bad they can just be elected by a board and some states have some requirements before being able to hop on. But it can be exploited easily

You'd think that wouldn't you. Sheriffs have a whole network for PR stuff and just like cops they can always use force and plant evidence. They are politician cops afterall.

I won't say outright it's entirely a bad idea on paper. Having a sub category that's primary focus is dealing with judges but as it stands it's currently very easy to exploit and is.

A big problem with them and the system is like politicians they get bought by money. And like cops they are also able to abuse the power on the street level with physical violence. They also have less checks than cops and they already have very few. And Deputies are just people the sheriff selects.

Also for foreigners to understand sheriffs and deputies they aren't even technically real cops. They are a hybrid of politicians and police. You vote a random person into job of sheriff they campaign and everything.

They pay because it's unpopular and racism~
