Read a few comics as a kid, but the bug didn’t kick in until avoiding studying for college finals—& there was the spinner rack. Eventually burned out by X-Men crossovers and New 52. Dipped a toe in again a few years ago and am feeling the joy again! 🏳️‍🌈

After reading the very sad Krypto #4, I turned to a happier #4, Jeff the Land Shark.

Jeff, Psylocke, Luna Snow, and Wolverine try to deal with the Shadow Sharks, but Jeff goes through a portal to see if Elsa Bloodstone can help him. More hijinks in the Savage Land with a T-Rex!

After reading Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #4, I was compelled to seek comfort from my own dog, who was next to me as I read this sweet, very sad (sob!) issue. Bad Brainiac 0!!

To be fair, Ryan North gave us a warning right up front to have someone nearby to hug.

Mr. Mind needs to team up with Sam from Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees! They’re both deceptively cute and very evil.

Wanda fights the dragon and reveals who is behind it, and you should only need one guess as to who that is at this point in the story.

But it seems there is someone directing him, so Wanda seeks out the only person who can help—Doctor Strange.

Had a great time reading this, & look forward to #2.

…her out of immediate danger, and just when things looked bad, she found Wanda’s Last Door.

Wanda takes them back to Billy & Teddy’s place, where she discovers what is happening—by reading the game’s instructions!
Nico hides from a fire-breathing dragon behind a truck. She says, “Billy Kaplan, if you’re not already dead, I’m going to kill you!” Art by Bayleigh Underwood, words by Jeremy Whitley. Nico shows Wanda the RPG they were playing.

Wanda, reading the directions: “When you play this game, you are transported to another world, one of myth and legend. By rolling this die, you hand over to a lord of nightmares from which there is no escape.”

Wanda: It seems our enemy hid themselves right out in the open.

Nico: Yeah, sure. But what do we do about it?

Wanda: Well, it may be against every natural impulse…but we start by reading these instructions to the end. You should always read the instructions to the end.

Art by Bayleigh Underwood, words by Jeremy Whitley.

Strange Tales was a lot of fun with Jeremy Whitley‘s witty and charming pen.

Having Billy, Teddy, Karolina, and Nico playing a RPG as a couple’s date was cute, but then of course things went wrong and they were being chased by goblins and a dragon.

Nico finds herself alone after Billy transported…

Karolina, Nico, Billy, and Teddy gather to play a role playing game, but when they roll the dice, interesting things happen. Art by Bayleigh Underwood, words by Jeremy Whitley.

That was our main card game back in college. It was a blast!

Thanks for including Kevin enjoying the eye candy! ❤️

If you see this, quote with your favorite Pokémon. (wrong answers only)

It’s a good read! The new-character-as-a-way-to-introduce-everyone is not new, but it did work. There was no dilly dallying, either, and we’re right in the thick of the problem, complete with our first casualties.

Already ordered #2 on my FOC.

Where in Ohio? There are some decent places, but most of it would not be friendly to Avengers Academy members, let’s say.

I get wanting to leave Arizona, having experienced the, uh, interesting way of life there for a few years.

Just don’t go from the frying pan into the fire.

AbBat can be heavy on violence, which had me wavering as to whether to continue to read it, but #13 won me over. I just want this Bane (not a villain I enjoy) arc to be over, though the ramifications of what he has done will live on throughout the series (I hope).

Agree on both Marian Heretic and AbBat.

Marian was about as good as a first issue can be, clearly defining the characters, their situations, and a basic worldview. I want to know to what Marian is going to, and whether those cardinals will receive their just punishments.

I like how they balance the current situation and revealing more about Jack’s history. Those newcomers, though—not winning any fans here.

It would be great to see more from these two heroes, both together and separately. I really enjoyed these two issues of Sleuth Comics!

There’s also a backup featuring Green Giant & Zip-Jet of Newkirk City fighting a Lizgoth invader. At only six pages, it’s not fleshed out, but it is an okay story.

Ms. Fury joins the fun, recites the spell the Doctor wrote out phonetically for her, and the Jade Scarab is no more.

Making a good team, Black Owl tells Ms. Fury that it would be great if she stayed in Knightsbridge as Newkirk already has its fair share of heroes, and he could use the help.
As Ms. Fury recites the spell, the Jade Scarab seems to explode and release energy. Art by Shane White, Mark Stegbauer, and Matt Webb, words by Christopher Mills.

Ms. Fury and Athena consult The Undying Doctor Styx, who tells them it is a binding spell that must be spoken in the Mummy’s presence.

Meanwhile, Black Owl heads to the mausoleum of Charles Forbes AKA Green Mummy—only to find the scarab has turned Charles into a new entity, the Jade Scarab.

…Toni Wylde (Ms. Fury) are in attendance. That’s fortunate, because the Green Mummy crashes the party to grab the tablet.

Athena (the sister of Darren’s deceased fiancée) grabs the tablet in the confusion and heads to an alley, and the Mummy flees when he can’t locate it.
While reporter Toni Wylde discusses the jade tablet with Professor Moench (first name Doug?!?), the Green Mummy crashes the party. In the confusion, Athena safeguarded the jade tablet, and Black Owl recommends someone who may be able to tell her and Ms. Fury more about it. The two heroes team up with no initial figet—how refreshing!—and defeat Moonshot, Luna, and Selene.

The Museum of History is hosting a gala event to display a jade tablet that pre-dates Egyptian history, and it so happens that both millionaire Darren Danville (Black Owl) and Newkirk Soul reporter…

Sleuth Comics #2 is even better than #1.

While Black Owl is making his rounds in Knightsbridge, he sees a van speed by with a woman dressed as a cat “surfing” on top. Intrigued, he follows it to Charon X-Technologies. There, we have a classic superhero meetup, where he is introduced to Ms. Fury.
The cover of Sleuth Comics #2 shows the Green Mummy/Jade Scarab grabbing a socialite at a museum gala. The Black Owl and Ms. Fury swing into action to save her and capture him. In the background are Egyptian statues. Art by Shane White and Matt Webb.

It’s a #SheHulkSunday, and Jen is taking Matt out on the town!

Art by Balakin.
From Balakin: “She-hulk is on so I just had to do another one with her and Daredevil. They are going to a party and about to stir up some trouble!”

Jen is wearing a purple strapless gown slit up to her left hip. She has Matt Murdock in a suite and red tie (and red socks) on her right shoulder. Her left hand is on her hip.

That it introduced me to Minor Threats! I now have read it’s first trade and am collecting the new series.

…character or host when he appears.

One of the recent stories that stays with me is “All of the Garys” from #38 in which clones of Gary perform very specific tasks every day, but occasionally one of them questions their existence and tries to escape.
Cover to Ice Man #38 shows the face of Gary filling the page with small Garys climbing all over it, up his nose, in his beard, in his mouth, on his eye lids—with the Ice Cream Man in the center of his open mouth. Posting horror comics for Halloween.

Ice Cream Man may sound innocuous, but this anthology series delivers exceptional horror stories. I don’t remember what made me pick it up, but I was immediately hooked.

The ICM himself is the connection between many of the stories, mostly as a background…
