How amazing is this? A pioneering procedure has seen five patients with an advanced form of dry age-related macular degeneration being fitted with microchips which, when combined with glasses featuring a built in video camera, has restored some of their vision!

The results are astounding and a major advance, say surgeons involved in international research using the pioneering technology.

Thank you to everyone who came to see us at the Community Support Day in St Blazey!

It was brilliant to be able to offer help and support with sight loss and also offer advice and referral information to the Three Harbours and Bosvena PCN team members who hosted and attended the event.
The inaugural meeting of our Newquay Audio Book Club was a big success!

We welcomed a group of blind and partially sighted book-lovers to Newquay library where they were able to discuss their favourite authors, get to know each other, and of course decide the first book they will read together!
We had a brilliant community drop-in event in Helston! There were lots of fantastic conversations and we hopefully helped and offered support to those who popped in.

Thank you to everyone who came!
One of the easiest ways to make your home, office, or business more accessible is using a simple tactile sticker.

Known as a Bumpon, these bright raised stickers can be placed to help you quickly and easily navigate using touch alone.

Vitamins A, C and E & lutein are antioxidants which help protect our eyes from harmful oxidants which can speed up cell degeneration and may contribute to the development of aged-related macular degeneration. Our bodies don't naturally produce lutein so it's really important to get it in our diets!
Today is National Avocado Day! Avocados are great at helping to keep your eyes healthy, being rich in vitamins A, C and E as well as lutein.

Par Dance Club had a lovely summer party this week with members and volunteers donning their summer outfits and enjoying party food alongside their dancing.

A big thank you to the club organisers and volunteers for arranging such a fun day! 💃🕺
We had a busy and brilliant event at Truro Community Library for VisionZone Truro 2025!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, and thank you to Optelec UK - solutions for Low Vision for inviting us, and to all of the library staff for being so helpful!

NHS England has just published the updated Accessible Information Standard, which makes clear how NHS and social care services in England must provide information to blind and partially sighted people in a way they can read.

It's a step forward - here's what's improved:

Our Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service turns 18 today!

Presented to the charity in 2007 by HRH Duchess of Gloucester, The Queen's Award rewards excellence in the voluntary sector through groups working within their communities and is the equivalent to an MBE.
The Rotary Club of Redruth have donated a brilliant £1,250 to iSightCornwall following a 'quacking' good fundraiser at Cornwall Gold!

The Rotarians hosted The Great Golden Duck Race which saw 1,373 rubber ducks entering the Tolgus Stream, competing for prizes and raising money for charity.

We're calling on local businesses and community groups to support us and help us to meet this demand.

Volunteers are absolutely vital to the work @isightcornwall.bsky.social do to support blind and partially sighted people across Cornwall.

This Volunteers' Week we simply want to say a huge thank you to all of our volunteers, both past and present, for everything they do. Thank you!

#VolunteersWeek
We're continuing to celebrate our volunteers as part of #VolunteersWeek!

In today's spotlight is the wonderful Barbara who helps out at Bugle Blues Bowling Club. She keeps the club ticking with arranging transport, sorting out the raffle and of course, her amazing cups of tea! Thank you Barbara!
Happy #VolunteersWeek! A time to shine a spotlight on our incredible team of 150 volunteers - without whom we could not do what we do.

All this week we'll be sharing the stories of just some of the brilliant people who donate their time to help blind and partially sighted people in Cornwall.
