Later, as they walked out together from the misty woods, Yunho slowly licking the blood, scattered flecks of human gore, and (from when NAME had tried in vain to shift halfway through Yunho's teeth clamping down on his neck) werewolf fur, Mingi sighed up in annoyance at the moon before opening his mouth to say, "I did keep trying to tell him you weren't a golden retriever or a collie or some shit. Like, literally every time he brought it up, at all those accord meetings, every time, and he justβ€”" Yunho grinned silently at that, and just knocked their elbows together as they walked out past the last copse of moonlit, mist shrouded trees into the crunching gravel of the trailhead where they'd parked. The goofy, friendly tilt of his smile, even on his significantly less elongated human face, reminded Mingi of nothing so strongly as a funny video he'd once seen of one of Yunho's true, fully canine distant cousins, visions of socks with googly eyes and singing muppets echoing faintly in his head, but the lazy, rambling walk as they neared their car, the quiet, latent power coiled in Yunho's lanky limbs, whispered of something even truer to something even deeper in Mingi's hindbrain. Something alien. Something uncanny. Something dangerous, even β€” especially - to a wolf. Mingi shivered imperceptibly, then, trying to shake it off, and reached out as they finally reached their car to tug open the door, not bothering to wait for the beep at a press from the fob. Anyone out here this late probably had a lot better, or at least shadier, things to do than trying car doors to find an easy steal, so they'd left it unlocked lips, Mingi felt that uncanny shiver from before trying to make its way up his spine once more. He spared one last thought to NAME and his ignorance, his arrogance, all left to rot in a now unrecognizable pile at the foot of a blood splattered tree. "I kept telling him, not a collie, not a lab, wolfhound, you're a wolfhound..." He shrugged it off again, looking off across the trailhead parking lot to where the sun had begun to break against the already lightening sky, and distantly registered the sound of gravel crunching under bare feet as Yunho walked around the back of the car to throw his bloodied wet wipe into the trunk, then continued on before stopping to lean in, nearly through Mingi's window, with his forearms up on the top of the driver's side door. Mingi stared steadfastly through the windshield, key poised in the ignition, resisting (with a downright Herculean effort, in Mingi's humble and unbiased opinion) the urge to peer too keenly, too openly, at where that breaking light illuminated the planes of Yunho's face mere inches away from his own through the open car window, where it caught like summer sunlit cornsilk in the shining waves of his hair, where it caressed the long lines of the muscles, bulging slightly, in his arms, where they were braced above them both through the too thin barrier of the driver's side door. Yunho leaned in further through the window, the shadow of that strange, goofy grin still in the lines of his face and directed square at Mingi, before he finally replied, with a lackadaisical shrug, "His funeral."

Hi, excuse me—” The tip of Yunho’s tail started to whip back and forth a bit at the attention, its long sateen feathering nearly sweeping the sidewalk at each pass, and he bounced on his feet in a way that nearly tripped Mingi head over ass into a minefield of memories of the way he used to jump up on strangers while shifted when he was still a teenager, after he’d shot up to a solid 6’1” on two legs in both human and hybrid forms, but before he’d learned better. Before he’d grown up, grown out of that puppy energy that still smoldered, golden and glowing, at the core of him. Before Mingi had learned, with time and repetition, that the wound from the stake that watching him like this, β€” enthusiastically greeting the world snoot first (whether it was visible at the time or not) β€” always drove into Mingi’s heart, was not a healing one. β€œOh woooow,” the lady intoned, eyes and smile sparkling, visibly restraining herself from reaching out one small, soft hand adorned with equally small, soft beige French tipped nails (Mingi privately, and perhaps uncharitably, thought to himself that he much preferred their Hongjoong-hyung’s messy monochromatic accent nails) to stroke the long, feathered tail that swept out from the gap between Yunho’s polo and jeans, or the shorter curls of lustrous fur that blended into Yunho’s mid-length waves around his currently human ears, β€œso silky! What did you say you are, again?” Yunho twinkled back at her. Mingi looked up to the heavens, as if to ask the moon, the stars, even the fucking big and or little β€˜c’ c/Catholic God he knew Yunho still sometimes prayed to, for help, for patience, while he heard Yunho answer amiably, β€œBorzoi!”

i spent the first few years after my EDS dx doing that and fwiw I just spent a lot of $$ and got a lot of friction/contact rashes 😭 the ring splints were good tho… (and tbf I have a rarer subtype, not hEDS, so it’s not like my knees are dislocating sitting around as much as some ppl)
