from a quick search it seems like the fediverse has also been experimenting w/ webmonetization ex: castopod
podlibre.video/videos/watch...

also lol I'm not surprised I found a silverpill post about it:
mitra.social/post/0195622...

actually why not x402 since it's vaguely eth-based vs vaguely xrp?
jackvalinsky.com
no this is older and by Ripple/XRP people, see coil.com for an example
jackvalinsky.com
As in webmonetization.org / Interledger or is this a different protocol?
jackvalinsky.com
Oh I mean translated,

localization also means stuff like making sure references to time/currency/different conventions are socially correct. European countries use a comma where Americans use a dot for representing numbers, etc.

我要一个凤梨酥 🍍🇹🇼 谢谢!

omg can we have F#'s unit conversion for types in every language pls?
jackvalinsky.com
My impression is C# is Java but better in some ways (I think the VM for C# differs from JVM in some important ways). Also F# is neat. Haven't really touched dot net though.

*though I know 2025 Java/JVM is different than the Java I dealt with in undergrad/highschool

I did not expect you to link to .NET docs
bizarro world windows dev Bailey arc

tbf there is official Rust code for Windows API stuff...

@chadtmiller.com probably a non-goal for @slices.network right now but it would be cool to have the skeleton of an implementation of localization hooks for slices. I'm interested/terrified what the Japanese dev community would do w/ slices 🫣

there's a saying in Irish: Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste
(Broken Irish is better than clever English)

though from what I've seen the bsky client also needs some work on the Irish localization too
jackvalinsky.com
@lawakua.bsky.social have you seen social media type sites that have decent Hawaiian language localizations? Obviously the only real solution is to pay human translators but I'm interested in piecing together a (probably garbage) translation to submit to some open source bsky client for starters :P
jackvalinsky.com
probably could test out this idea with @slices.network 🤔
jackvalinsky.com
@catsky.social probably a non-goal but it would be interesting thinking about ways to render bridged accounts from activitypub and nostr to look less bad on here.

Also probably another non-goal, but it would be wholesome to support more localization than bsky.app ex: at least ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi 🌺
jackvalinsky.com
you'd think with all the AI $$$ they would fix this
*ducks*
jackvalinsky.com
for some weird reason @tynanpurdy.com wants to, tbf there's probably something wrong with him though

side note: I'm 1000% on board w/ criticizing Bluesky for their mistakes 💀 but one way to get them to improve is to be the people that change them.
jackvalinsky.com
yeah I know, but I'm 100% sure nostr users will still be like its a ✨ centralized ledger ✨ 😬🤮

and then shove the entire history of the BTC blockchain into encoded PLC records for the lolz
jackvalinsky.com
microcosm is just trying to help me look less dumb :P

PLC

also I wish did:web was actually did:webvh tbf

generate @gleam.run 🥺👉👈 (or some BEAM language)

In my defense this was a very 2am kind of shower thought, I think I was looking at block vs object storage pricing but also not using my brain. 🚫 🧠
jackvalinsky.com
I think I meant something like an embedded DB that eventually writes to an object store? I imagine there are performance reasons not to do this.

Being completely honest that I’m trying to cheap out and not pay for the managed database service 🤷‍♂️

> account closed for being cheap 😞

Do you have any ideas about making a better starerpack-like thing on atproto because the primary issue is not being able to remove yourself? I imagine it could be a lexicon that alternative bsky clients implement. The point about following an account who identifies as X but posts Y is also tricky.
