@haydendonnell.bsky.social es not expecting my podcast for tonight to include hearing @davidfarrier.com talking about you freezing your dead cat and then it defrosting during a power cut while you were away 😂

Palmerston North City Coungil makes it into the top 10 by population with ~90k people last time I looked

Guess we should be grateful that they're really bad at it then
jamesw228.bsky.social
Feel like they're going to learn the wrong lessons from this

Like, be better at hiding your connections to the toxic weirdos and pay slightly more for your foreign social media farm so they remember to switch accounts while astroturfing

78 local authorities is really stupid in a country of 5m people. Especially when a single local authority represents 1.7m of those people #nzpol
jamesw228.bsky.social
He's pandered to some groups during the campaign that it'll be very disappointing if he actually tries to follow through on. Like the local NIMBYs
jamesw228.bsky.social
Transpower are so great though 😂😂

And obviously we'd then have those costs passed to us by the ISPs who actually sell us Internet access
jamesw228.bsky.social
So in the short term it'd be less maintenance, slower fixing of faults & longer waits for connections as they reduced staffing to increase profits from an essentially fixed income while they lobbied to increase the charge per connection & weaken how they're regulated so they couldI charge more
jamesw228.bsky.social
It won't impact in the short term. Chorus are a regulated monopoly with the price they charge per connection fixed by the regulator which is what puts the floor on the prices actual providers charge us but as the network operator they're responsible for maintaining the network & adding connection ls

Thank fuck this decision was taken away from councils
jamesw228.bsky.social
I'm not sure that was actually on the ballot
jamesw228.bsky.social
There's a simple solution to this problem

Seems kinda low given how weird Whanganui is
jamesw228.bsky.social
On the Bright side, 3 years of him and Little getting into arguments with each other will be funny for the rest of us to watch
jamesw228.bsky.social
This is true but it's also another vote (and the tiebreaker) which leans towards NIMBY which is one of the many things which suck about him
jamesw228.bsky.social
Congratulations, looking forward to you keeping up the good work
jamesw228.bsky.social
Great news, looking forward to you continuing the excellent work
jamesw228.bsky.social
Sorry to hear this and thank you for the good and hard work you did over the last 3 years
jamesw228.bsky.social
Very mixed feelings about having to care about what Andrew Little thinks for the next 3 years #nzpol
jamesw228.bsky.social
I think they'll push him early next year if he's still the. They'll want the time to try and recover their position
jamesw228.bsky.social
They learnt from the first term and bought in early this time (And between them if you see the list of current Trump officials who they paid for lobbying work)
