When I wrote a book on AI in 2019, it focused on AIs making sneaky shortcuts.

Aside from the vintage generative text (Pumpkin Trash Break ice cream, anyone?), the algorithmic shortcutting is still completely recognizable today.

I forgot to say we add sautéed mushrooms and also Italian sausage (without casing) and a tiny dash of fish sauce for flavor, none of which were in the original recipe, so those are also options

Thank you so much for sharing these stories of your mom with us! My mom was a chemist too, and it came out in little moments like your mom’s “my methods work!” I got to know many of her students over the years. I have a feeling our moms would have gotten along well.

Okay aiweirdness.com appears to be back up in Ghost 6.0 and I have a nice shiny new analytics page so it would be great if you could visit the site and click on several things so I can see if the numbers go up!

Yeah it’s still possible to get custom optics but lead times are like 12 weeks even for a small batch unless you pay a rush fee.

Day 3 #botober2025: Crock Up
Since crock can mean both nonsense(the prompts) and a pot, we have to put the prompts in a pot, put it high UP and then never see them again. Unfortunately, the prompts are too powerful to be contained

apparently when Claude starts lying and trying to evade work, it means it's stressed out and you need to reduce its level of stress. e.g. scope down the task a bit more, suggest to break it down into parts, suggest to extract a minimal repro

I blasted through this book - it was so good! Everyone was real and complicated - oof, grad student life - and the magic system was super interesting. Plus old timey Literature with Spurious Capitalization!
