one haiku, one tanka

Sunday cottonwood showers
pup coronation
a dog’s meaty dream

birds blast the airwaves
morning chatter just enough
to deaden the news
old love songs to the planet
grand arias shared anew

I've been gone from Bluesky for a bit. Good to be back. Happy to say Haikuniverse shared one of my poems today! Hope you like --

we ball angry hopes cast pleas and faith over nations tree of justice, rise

(water+love)+ (resistance+love) + rage - pure bitterness/wet dog+love x (love×love)= hope+righteousness×joy
corroborated by Jimmy "The poets, by which I mean all artists, are finally the only people that know the truth about us. Soldiers don't, statesmen don't, priests don't, union leaders don't.."
Thank you for the supportive words! Means a lot!
Spare, unexpected -- "...not healing"--, heartbreaking, true.
Beautifully understated. The quietness says so much.
spring snow taunts and grins

robins puff like fresh croissants

when will we taste warmth?

My pleasure! It's beautiful and moving. Thank you for reposting my recent one and for noting the symbolism, opaque as it may be. Be well, Rachel. I look forward to your next creation!
Aye! "where is the light" -- so right for these days. Hits true and hard.
Still super tall! Just an odd photo. Hope you're well!
spring surge, all brawn

waterfall din, no demands

on our shrill lives

- dead deer on the creek's bank at first light

part iii

in our mother’s full
heft and roundness.
bow to her
undulating blood raw

love

and i do
and i tremble

- dead deer on the creek’s bank at first light-

part ii

right cutlets rife
with wriggling life.
a near fawn
tender and inching
measuring this self

in the water’s
verdant deadly reflection.
we want to
believe in second
chances freely kissed

- dead deer on the creek’s bank at first light-
(in number of parts)

i.
last night's carcass
this morning sustenance
this nocturnal mayhem
masticating as natural
as moonbeams felt

on life gone.
coyotes ravish this
rendered brute deer
chest heaving here
raw pieces now

- deer carcass by the river -

rib cage released

breast to the heavens

breath to the heavens

we hide from blood

grizzle our enemy

we want it clean

linear as success

steel guardrails cleaving

once meandering waters

Powerful poem! We all want to express the ineffable and this poem beautifully explores that longing. Thank you, Rachel!
Thank you for the supportive words and for reposting the poem.
upstream promises

these rippling bends we wish on

downstream, i will wait

So needed and right on.
- winter thaw -

winter washed
rocks reveal
so much death
and just enough.
beavers done in.
deer carcass
red ribbed. mercy
in the rot. mercy
in the spring. mercy
in your kiss. all
animal and guttural.
so perfectly human
