Today we talk about writer’s block on my substack. There are many reasons a block can happen, and putting a name on it and why it happens is often the first step.

It’s amazing what distance does to perception.

Sometimes you need to get close up.

Other times you need to get far away.

And life is often about adjusting to see better.

I'm 57 and still get a kick out of trying to catch leaves as they fall!
Several leaves flying through the air (it's super windy here today), with a mostly cloudy sky above. I miss 95% of them, but that doesn't keep me from trying!

Tomorrow’s free post on Substack is about getting things done with pressure and peace. We can excel in one or both, though we can also bring a bit of each to whatever moment we’re living. Subscribe for free or paid today so you don’t miss out any of the goodness.

Confession of a writer #41: It's curious to see how often people who are kind of hacks have traction or look to have traction while people who are super talented struggle. I know it's all about perception but some people do seem to have an easier time than they should, but that may be down to optics

Here's a recap of my first book event in years at El Book Stop Santurce, with Patrick Oneill.

Thanks to the people who came by, picked up a copy, and hung out. Big cheers.

I have to say that playing Hollow Knight: Silk Song has been as rewarding an experience as the first game. It's such an amazing sequel and the more I explore the more stuff I keep finding. Challenging as it gets though extremely rewarding.

Practicing empathy will never mean you’ll get any back.

Confession of a writer #40: I always review as a reader and I am always honest, regardless of who I'm reviewing. I was once asked why I've give any rating for a book and I'm like, that's my score and I stick by my opinion for X or Y and. Giving a disingenuous review does no one any favors.

I’ve seen the flashiest bartender serve a barely drinkable cocktail and I’ve seen a person who barely registers a pulse serve mixologist perfection.

Don’t confuse quality for showboating.

Sidenote: I know plenty of friendly bartenders who rock at their job and those are my favorite type.

Confession of a writer #39: Everyone will have steps and tips of things you HAVE To do or SHOULD be doing if you want to be successful, but what works for someone need not work for you. I'm done forcing things. If it's fun and doesn't feel like a chore, I'll do it. Otherwise, skip.
