Moon Shift.
#Spooktober #Shapeshifter #EastCoastKin #Stunday #SensoryArt #shadow #photography #moon
I posted a similar image a few weeks ago, so this is the same process. I was in a car traveling on a clear evening after the sun had set. A sliver of the Moon was visible but so small that you could still see the greater circle of the Moon. I took a photo in the low light while the car was moving and got this motion blur effect. I liked how the motion was portrayed in the image and this subject in particular makes me think of shape-shifting. The Moon is the ultimate shapeshifter. It's shape is constantly changing due to shadows and time.

Aurora Borealis in Southern Indiana.
#BlueSkyArtShow #Glow #AuroraBorealis
Usually when the news teases us about seeing the Aurora Borealis, there's nothing to show for it. This time last year, we were treated to a show in the sky. Red and green light pillows shooting into the sky visible to the naked eye. I was on a college campus and this was the darkest place I could find, and I appreciated that the water tower gave some interesting scale to the image. Some fat guys were playing cards at a table nearby and saw me walking around taking pictures of the sky. I could hear them say, we're not going to be able to see anything. A few minutes later they looked up and started screaming that they could see it. I'm glad they eventually looked up.

I forgot to use alt text today, so here's a description. This spider sculpture is named to refer to the artist's mother, a weaver. It is more comforting than scary. I took this photo underneath the spider looking up towards the great height of the Mori Center with children playing around.

Can't say I disagree, but I am already here. The actions of the US Government, especially the Executive Branch are not normal and are very dangerous. I am just here in the resistance posting photos of the US and the world that give me motivation to save it.

Yellowstone River from the rim of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Yellowstone National Park.
#EastCoastKin #scape #landscape #Yellowstone
This photograph shows a bird's eye view of the Yellowstone River from the edge of the Grand canyon of the Yellowstone. In this area of Yellowstone National Park, the colorful rock is exposed in a vast canyon and the name of the park sense. In this image pastel color canyon walls frame a Blue River with the white caps of rapids throughout. It is a unique view to get without a drone!

Lightning in a dramatic sky.
#Spooktober #lightning #BlueTue #EastCoastKin
This photograph of a scenic view of the Ohio River was taken at night during a thunderstorm. A bolt of cloud to cloud lightning strikes and lights up the sky and the river reflecting it below. The composition is dominated by black and blue with a few pinpoints of light on the ground.

Black Cat in it's fancy witchy shop.
#Spooktober #BlackCat #ClassicMono #WeekOforOpulence #AlphabetChallenge #31DaysOfHalloween
A regal, black Maine Coon cat sits in a corner surrounded by decorative woodwork. The cat looks out of the frame of the photo rather than at the photographer to add to the mystery of the image.
This shop cat and it's twin can be found at Hierophany & Hedge in Covington, Kentucky.

Orb Weaver.
#Spooktober #nightmare #Stunday #31DaysOfHalloween #AlphabetChallenge #WeekNforNight #photography #EastCoastKin
This photograph shows a massive spider web filling the frame. The center of the web is in the lower right area of the composition showing that only a portion of the web is captured in the image. The web is backlit And catches the light dramatically as darkness falls. A large or beaver spider rests at the center of the web waiting for its prey.

I'm not terribly afraid of spiders, but it was startling to walk out my back door and almost walk into this web. That would have been a nightmare due to the cringy feeling of spider webs on your face and also the undoing of the hard work of the spider. The real nightmare is for the mosquitoes.

Pencil drawing of a model who likely fell asleep, 2024.
#BlueSkyArtShow #Relax #smArtist #ArtYear #LifeDrawing #FigureDrawing #drawing
This drawing was done at a local drawing night at an art gallery. The model is laying down with one arm extended above her head and her legs are propped up on a box covered by a blanket. The artist had 20-25 minutes to complete the drawing.

To add to the terror, there was a chapel seated right on top of the dungeon.

Cape Coast Castle Dungeon. Ghana, Africa.
It's important to read the alt text on this one.
#BWFri #ColorADay #ClassicMono #Spooktober #Dungeon #EastCoastKin #photography
This photo features an arched tunnel that leads uphill and towards the sunlight. The space that the photographer stands in is inky black, lit only with the light coming from the tunnel.
Cape Coast Castle is located in Ghana, Africa. It was built in the 1600s by the Swedish but then soon taken over by the British to turn into a staging area for the transatlantic slave trade. These dungeons held people ready to be exported. This was one of the most haunting places I've ever been. It's a devastating feeling to walk down that tunnel and know that many people never made it out, and if they did they were still trapped in a dungeon of oppression and forced labor. This is one of the scariest photos I've ever taken because it represents how terribly far people can push away their own humanity for their own gain.

Entering the Festival at Akasaka Hikawa Shrine, Tokyo.
#EastCoastKin #HumansOfBlueSky #UrbanGaze #PalacesAndGardens #gates #YellowThu #AlphabetChallenge #WeekNforNights #Tokyo #Japan #ToriGate #Shrine
A few years ago I took this photo while entering a festival at a shrine in Tokyo. The ancient ginkgo trees were lit, shadows were cast, and there was a lot of fun festival food and dancing. This image shows the Tori gate as you enter the shrine marking the regular world from the spiritual world. This photo captures that effect very well with the difference between the well-lit festival in the dark night outside the gate.

Actual Ghost?
See Alt text for details, comment your thoughts about the cause of the mist.
#Spooktober #ghost #EastCoastKin
This photo from late May in 2011 shows a misty figure intertwined with some iron work on a tomb in a cemetery in Northern Kentucky. I didn't see the most with my eyes when I took the picture. I was just trying to get a picture of the iron work and discovered the mist later. I've always wondered if it was just a visible representation of cold air meeting, a warm day or something else. The photo has been edited for brightness and better visibility of the mist.

Glow-st, Madison, Indiana.
#WackyArtWednesday #WindowsOnWednesday #Spooktober #ghost #31DaysOfHalloween #EastCoastKin #photography
This colorful ghost photo is dominated by a neon ghost glowing in front of a church. A neon bat hanging from a nearby and a windowless white van also add to the creep factor. I took this from a low vantage point to be sure to get all of the church in the photo and to highlight how the ghost makes the green grass glow.
This photo is taken in the summertime not in the fall, it's a bit of a sad story. The town of Madison had an employee that made these holiday decorations for every season. When that employee passed away, they honored him by putting his work in a place of honor by a historic fountain in the center of town. There were ghosts, four leaf clovers, Santa, and more!

Moon Over the Gulf of Mexico, 2022.
#EastCoastKin #TidesOutTuesday #ColorADay #BlueTue #AlphabetChallenge #WeekNforNight #photography #GulfOfMexico
This photograph was taken in Destin Florida in 2022 on a family vacation. The photo highlights the white sand, emerald green water, and dynamic sky...all lit by a nearly full moon. The low light demanded a longer exposure, so the movement of the waves over the sand is apparent from the smooth blur of motion.

Mt. Fairweather, Alaska.
#EastCoastKin #MountainMonday #BlueSlyMonday #Alaska #monochromatic #photography #blue
This photo was taken from a boat in Glacier Bay National Park. Seeing a peak that exceeds 15,000 feet from sea level was a new and moving experience. We were lucky to see it because true to its name, it is only visible in fair weather.
The composition is monochromatic with various tints and shades of blue. The pine forest in the foreground have the darkest value and smaller mountain slopes create a valley to frame the larger mountain, giving it a diamond shape.

Sub Zero Southerner, 2012.
#ClassicMono #AlphabetChallenge #WeekMforMemories #ArtOfSelfPortraiture #SelfPortraitSunday #Weathered
My first subzero walk. I was absolutely bundled with a scarf my sister made, and my hair caught my breath as it froze on each strand. I had never experienced this growing up in the south, so the excitement for the moment wascommunicated through my eyes... which are the main visible part of my face behind the scarf and hair.

Lava Road, Craters of the Moon National Monument, Idaho.
#BlueSkyArtShow #TheRoad #ClassicMono #EastCoastKin #Idaho #Landscape #photography
I took this photo back in 2012 on a trip to Craters of the Moon National Monument. The vast lava fields that this Monument is known for were impressive and otherworldly. They were created by the same volcanic hot spot that is currently boiling beneath Yellowstone National Park. This photo shows a bird's eye view of the craggy lava fields and highlights of winding road that maneuvers through the unforgiving landscape towards the more typical rolling hills and mountains of southern Idaho.

Sweet Treat, Findlay Market, Cincinnati.
#EastCoastKin #FoodOnFriday #SensoryArt #Rainbows #icecream #mural #Cincinnati
This photo shows a popsicle held in the photographer's hand. The background features a mural showing a rainbow of colors creating a circle with a hand shape. The placement of the popsicle makes it seem like an array of colors is radiating from the cool treat.
