It gets bloody cold, mind. Friends of mine from there lived in London for a bit and for them they said it was like being somewhere tropical 😂
jeres.bsky.social
Nice! I tried but couldn't find it! Was it good?
jeres.bsky.social
Dunno! It said so when I did a quick Google but it could be nonsense of course
jeres.bsky.social
Correction: pop. 55,000 (about the same as Camborne)

And the sea goes wild....

Funnily enough, I just looked on Visit Faroe Islands' Insta and you're definitely not wrong
jeres.bsky.social
It's a fascinating place. Probably my favourite press trip ever.
jeres.bsky.social
I didn't see any stadiums when I was there! Incredible achievement aye.

Football is almost entirely disappointing these days so it would be nice for something completely unexpected like that to happen.

The Faroes Islands (population: 30,000 and I met most of them when I was there last year, a lovely bunch) just beat Czech Republic (population: 10.8m) in a World Cup qualifier. It's their third win in a row. Imagine the Faroes going to the World Cup!

I suppose my parents' divorce and me falling out of things should probably have gone in there somewhere

What five events defined your childhood?

-Miners' Strike
-Brighton Bombing
-PiL on Top of the Pops
-Roland Rat moving to the BBC
-Discovering mushrooms in the garden

Yeah, it's weird that it comes from a "contemporary series". It's got 1969 on the label which was the year of release I believe.
jeres.bsky.social
Ah right, mistaken identity. Let me know if you find any bargains.
jeres.bsky.social
Indeed! It's a really good little shop, opens on Sundays too. I noticed you mentioned here that you were at the Luke Haines gig at the Barn so you can't be far from me.

#nowplaying £15 from Olaf's in Sevenoaks and now lighting up my Sunday afternoon with weirdy psychedelia. Aren't records bloody ace?
jeres.bsky.social
No, that makes sense. I think Lil Beethoven was the one where people started to take notice again but it was a pretty far out record and probably a bit too far out for some
jeres.bsky.social
Great piece. Bonkers that that got spiked.

Never knowingly miss an opportunity to replug my Ron and Russell interview from Meltdown week. Spiked by Uncut at the time for reasons best left to themselves. Why yes, skippy. That's right. It is one of the best interviews I ever did.

Who would have thought that Ron Mael not only has immaculate taste but immaculate reasoning too. This is a beaut of a read from start to finish.

"The Who were charming to me when they were writing more situational songs. They didn’t necessarily concern world shattering issues, but instead really beautiful, miniature statements. [and] I love the artwork with the Heinz Baked Beans."

The Who Sell Out album cover. Pete Townshend has a giant deodorant under his arm and Roger Daltrey is sat in a tub filled with baked beans whilst holding a Heinz can. He also has baked beans on his face, clearly indicating that he has been eating them.

Ah, there you go, cheers! Yeah, it's not really for me either. I prefer September Gurls by The Bangles to be honest.
jeres.bsky.social
Did The Lemonheads ever cover September Gurls by Big Star? It exists in my head but doesn't seem to exist anywhere else, confusingly. It's the most Lemonheads song ever and they are a glorified covers band essentially which maybe why I've imagined it

The 1973 film That's Entertainment! was based on an old showtune from The Band Wagon. I think the Weller song was inspired by the film so yeah

We called it a "snit" back in the day (a portmanteau of "snot" and "spit"). Snitting is probably not compatible with a multimillion endorsement deal from Nike.
