🌿We're celebrating 200 years since John Stevens Henslow became Professor of Botany at Cambridge. He oversaw the relocation of the Botanic Garden to its current 40-acre site & was a mentor to Charles Darwin, inspiring his ideas on plant variation. Learn more about his legacy: tinyurl.com/4stzwhz9

Excited to find drawings of moths by FW Frohawk (1861-1946) in the archive of biologist William Bateson @theul.bsky.social.

They’re catalogued as ‘27 drawings of Milan Leps’, but think this should be ‘Melan[istic] Leps’? Do they look right for showing melanism, #TeamMoth? MS Add. 8634/J.3 #EntHist
Montage showing coloured illustrations of moths and the envelope in which they’re kept. There is blue handwriting on the envelope, which might read: ‘Frohawk’s drawings [o]f Melan[istic] Leps’.

The bird gallery at @mfnberlin.bsky.social is closed for redevelopment, but instead of packing away their #birds, they crated up 11,500 #taxidermy specimens and put the crates on display instead. It's a really interesting - and beautiful - approach to open storage. #museums

🤣 Love this so much. Uffenbach was grumpy about his visit to @theul.bsky.social too. Hopefully visitors had a better experience of the Woodward cabinets when they moved to the Library a few years later in the Conyers Middleton era …

A literary Iguanodon at the Earth Sciences Library. Do any other libraries have dinosaurs or other antediluvian creatures carved into the furniture?
jillwhitelock.bsky.social
I think it’s just the common variety growing all around the Library as a wildflower.
