Yeah, but what makes me not worry as much is Mark saying that the standards are higher to get a side set made. Like they will not do a Horizons or Masters set ever again unless they have something truly special.

Probably. They already cut down half. I think they genuinely want to encourage skipping if you don't care. Like if you think EoE is not your taste, thats fine. Ignore preview season, then skim for commanders you wanna build/updates to your decks and/or just see the 4-5 cards that shake up standard

The issue is this is kinda clearly a "People are complaining about 8-10 sets a year and people are complaining that Modern Horizons and Commander focused sets are hurting the formats. Lets cut our sets by half and do only standard stuff instead" as a solution, idk.

I think they felt they shouldn't design cards specifically for Modern or Commander anymore, so they got rid of side sets mostly to focus on standard and decided they should listen to burnout complaints by cutting 10 sets down to half of that with 6 to deal with both problems, but it creates more.

It is funny how we got like 8-10 sets a year for a lot of the 2020s iirc, then they listened and cut it down by nearly half, but created a new problem by making them all legal in standard.

At least 7 is only for 2026. I still think Spiderman was a small set that got turned into a big one, so they moved Lorwyn to 2026 and decided that instead of just pushing a 2027 set to 2028 and 2028 to 2029 and so on they'll just have one year of 7 and 6 is the norm every year after.

Or that Mark is just a corporate shill, like this man has talked at length about every time MTG fucks up. He does podcasts of sets like MKM and Aftermath and Unfinity being flops and failures and dissecting why, he answers negative questions all the time, if UB was a failure, he'd talk about it.

The worst is when people try lie about its success? Like when people gush about a set, half the replies are "this is clearly a bot" or "we know you're a wotc employee undercover. no one actually like this", every time Mark brings up people telling him they love FF or TMNT its always "well hes lying"
