Hello historians! I would like to mention that I have this initiative called the Iberian Colonial Repository, where I am gathering primary sources from archives that are not available online. If you have sources about colonial LatAm from previous projects collecting digital dust, please DM me

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.

"Ari" is working in the poblano chilis in Santa Clara County. He explains how workers harvest the chilis, then take their full buckets over to a conveyor belt & dump them on it. The conveyor belt goes up lifting the chilis & "Ari" then directs them into different bins. #WeFeedYou

That is precisely it. Extraordinarily conservative, Fighting for democracy was not in their business card in the pre-Chavez days. Venezuelans are between a rock and a hard place.

I like WCK. I just don't like José Andrés that much. Greta might be pushing it for me, but I like her. I am not sure Zelenskyy could get it when he is actively fighting a war. Pelicot should definitely get something for absolutely bravery and determination to bring all that to light.

I agree. Still, that doesn't make the much opposition likeable or desirable. I feel for ordinary Venezuelans.

The Venezuela government is so oppressive and internationally disliked that even historically unlikable opposition leaders are getting Nobel prizes.

Can’t blame them. They are the few lucky ones who can.

Is anyone interested in being part of a panel about undergraduate research for SECOLAS 2026 in Las Vegas? Deadline is November 1. I would need at least 2 more people.
Let me know!

The state of our generation is hoping that our family, a family of four with two adults, can someday make as much money as one of our Boomer parents in retirement.

And if you belong to a later generation, things get much tougher.

That is next level. In both directions 🤣

If you go further back for an even older precursor, Sam Cooke did the same, signing a spectacular contract with RCA. Obviously Cooke did not have the impact of Price, but it does speak of a long tradition of musicians (and African Americans in particular) fighting for their art.

We are losing something by having newsrooms where everyone who has more than a few years’ experience has gotten fired. I don’t fault a young writer for not knowing about things that happened before she was born. But now there are no editors to help give context to these stories, either.

That is another good point. His team keeps him so completely insulated that he is completely out of touch.
