I prefer the modal interface for most editing, and I’ve been using vim regularly for years …but have been stuck at fairly basic proficiency for most of that time. I still find search/replace tricky, for example.

I just think it says something very amusing about the app that kids’ default mode of interacting with it is shamelessly using it for the exact opposite of its stated purpose. Classic case of utopian design ideals meeting real user behavior
