I bought the Yamaha at Goodwill in 1996 and got more than 20 years out of it. Not having a local repair shop is the problem for me.

The local stereo repair shop, The Stereo Doctors, stopped treating patients several years ago, so when my beloved Yamaha C820 needed service, I had nowhere to turn. Luckily, my oldest friend called in a favor and got a Sansui 5000 for me. I hope I can keep it going.

The worst. Happened to me twice on a bike ride this summer.

I visited the Best Buy store for the first time in a long time and checked out the home audio department, where I found four receivers available for purchase. When I first shopped here in the '90s, there were dozens.

I think they took it to Hutchinson Island, possibly this location:

The idea of a Lee Greenwood Super Bowl performance is, of course, ridiculous. But hear me out: Holographic Lee Hazlewood Super Bowl performance.

It just occurred to me that @prudenincorporated.bsky.social has experience in the realm of channel marker/buoy handling and may have insight into where it is/will go.

I've never been to Portland, but I would like to visit someday. Fun fact: The guy who made the song that was used as the "Portlandia" theme, Ernest Weatherly Greene Jr., is from Perry, Georgia, and is a UGA alumnus.

I suppose the WFMU analog for Rob's show, Proggy Notion, is @dmandl.bsky.social's It's Complicated. Not sure what mine is.

Tonight at @wruu.bsky.social, I compared @wfmu.bsky.social swag with Rob, who is on the air immediately after me. My tote bag and his shirt.

Agreed. I'm grateful I can buy Wild Georgia Shrimp™ right across the bridge from Savannah in Thunderbolt from a shrimpmonger I know by name (His name is Jay.).

For those following the epic journey of the channel marker that washed up on Tybee Island, a helicopter is now on the way to grab it. Thanks for the update, Mac! I wonder where they will take it. USCG Station Tybee, perhaps?

EBONY 09 (CH-47F, 13-08146, B/2-3 AVN) is en route to Tybee now, they're one of the 3rd ID's CH-47s. They were up with KNIGHTHAWK OPS on 32.200 FM, but have switched to 40.700 FM with BEACH BOUY CONTROLLER. I don't have the best signal on them now they're closer to Tybee.

Georgians now have early access to the ACA plans with their new premiums.

One silver plan has a $10,000 deductible. In one case, the silver plans ranged from $2600 to $4800 per month.

Per. Month.

Massive ACA price hikes revealed as Georgia Access window shopping opens early
Some premium prices are more than tripling as ACA pandemic-era subsidies expire nationwide. The issue prompted the congressional shutdown.

I asked some city officials to improve and expand bicycle parking at the neighborhood shopping center and they did! Victory! Unfortunately, this has already happened. I'm guessing a very powerful e-bike is to blame.

Via City of Tybee: "The U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Army will conduct a joint operation on Tybee Island to remove the channel marker from the beach around 4 p.m. on Oct. 9. For public safety, a 300-foot perimeter on each side of the marker will be established. The pier will remain open."

Full disclosure: I haven't seen it in person yet. Just reading information from Tybee Island Ocean Rescue. The channel marker is down near the pier, and since I'm a Second Street/East Gate boy, I'm wary of that area. What if there's a gang of beach bums down there who don't want me on their turf? 😜

Good thing I don't have a boat.

I start to cringe when a national news reporter is about to say the word “Valdosta.” They get it right about 30% of the time.

I was pleased to discover that after letting my Prime membership expire in July, I really haven't missed it at all.

I have become a big fan of the Criterion 24/7 feature. It's like dropping out of warp into a movie without any idea of what you're getting into. I've wandered into several things I wouldn't have known about otherwise. Like this, which was filmed a couple of counties south of me:
