Anti-semitism now refers to hatred of Jews, but the Semitic people include both Arabs and Jews. There's a very short distance between anti-semitism as its now defined and Islamaphobia since both are rooted in distrust and fear of non-white outsiders.

Well, there's Adams, who threw newspaper publishers in jail, Lincoln, who did likewise and suspended habeas corpus, Wilson, who cleaned black people out of government jobs, and the Red Scare, which threw people accused of communism out of jobs everywhere, destroying careers and leading to suicides.

I think I'm being realistic, not apathetic. I'm involved with weekly protests, and have been arrested once so far. I'm also aware of US history and know we've seen times like this before. I just don't think we're in the world you think we are.

I think your letting your fears get the better of you. In the world you think we're in, Kilmar Abrego Garcia would still be in CECOT, Rumeysa Ozturk would still be in jail, etc. And MTG wouldn't be speaking out. A

This is by no means an unprecedented time in our history. America is red in tooth and claw. Periods of repression are followed by periods of positive change. We should fight back, but also think about what we'd like that change to be.

The weird thing is I've now seen two operas at the Met where there's a full stage of men dancing together socially and I don't think I've ever seen a stage full of women dancing together socially.

Hmm. Maybe getting someone to prosecute who's never prosecuted before wasn't such a great idea. Especially against someone who's been working in law enforcement his entire career.

Interestingly this doesn't happen in other professions. There it always indicates you're doing something really wrong. "I've been a plumber for forty years and I never saw anybody do that in that way!"

LLMs hallucinate because they are trained to produce a response and there's not really a penalty for the response being wrong. It's suited to the goals of the CEOs running the companies building them. They're the kind of guys who want to hear reasonable-sounding things. Not "I'm not sure."

I saw "The amazing adventures of Kavalier and Clay" at the Met just now. What a moving opera. Touching on immigration and longing for those who were taken from us. It's especially appropriate now, with our participation in an especially brutal war, and while the government is terrorizing immigrants.
