I love the grimdark fantasy setting of Quake 1 more than og Doom's cartoony hell, but when I think of a possible continuation I don't think of Quake 5, I think "they should let the Slayer loose in there" which they kinda did in 2016 and Dark Ages

I think Carmack's "story in a game" philosophy crumbles on itself when you see what the bare minimum of Doom's lore and ""story"" took the franchise compared to Quake, a game with a much stronger atmosphere and vibes that didn't even bother with the pretense of a narrative
