I’m a writer and closet revolutionary. I love music, swimming in the ocean, and reading books.

From Nick Cave's Red Hand Files today: "I believe that there are times when it is almost a sacred duty to shut the fuck up."
Hawking proved information can’t be destroyed. Now I’m an old surfer, and every wave carries information about the wind, bottom contours, board slicing thru its face etc.

So when the wave dissipates on the shore, where does that information go?

I’m fascinated by this idea.
I am SO FUCKING EXCITED. #Underworld are playing #Carriageworks on December 29.

Underworld live are life changing.

1991 was a long time ago, but sometimes I feel like I could just reach out and touch the past. Newish personal writing at #substack

Help Me Find Missing Issues of Australian Personal Computer
The Internet Archive is missing a few dozen issues of Australian Personal Computer magazine. I'm trying to find them.

#netzero is a laudable goal. But it’s also completely unachievable. There’s no way heavy transport will be decarbonised by 2050. Same goes for aviation and shipping. And the little secret is renewables, even with big batteries, can’t do baseload, so we’re gonna be relying on gas for years to come.
I think the acid I’ve dropped in recent months has done something. I feel more expansive, more accepting. More in tune with the universal, fundamental drone. I think acid is a sacrament, and needs to be treated with respect. But it has also opened my mind.

This song was SO far ahead of its time. Donna Summer and Gorgio Moroder pretty much invented dance music.

Galaxie 500 are one of the most important bands of the last 40 years or so. Their music evokes that feeling of melancholy you have on a grey day at home by yourself, with only a pack of smokes, a cup of coffee and yr thoughts to keep you company.

Blockchain. Remember that? Useful for precisely nothing except indirectly gobbling up massive amounts of electricity so the crypto grifters can engage in their ongoing Ponzi scheme.
The first two #MercuryRev albums were SO fucken sick. They kicked out their singer, David Baker, after those two rekkids and, like so many bands we loved, kinda lamed out after that. I woulda LOVED to have seen them in 91. So many bands, so many bands we never saw.

When I was still on Fb, I’d incessantly get ads for adult incontinence products. Like, really?
The optics of any single male over about the age of 30 going to Thailand or similar for a solo “holiday” are bad.
As a writer, you know what bugs me? How most media outlets have stopped using honorifics. When I came thru, the only people who didn’t get them were convicted criminals. Now everyone is referred to by their last name. It lacks elegance and respect. @mjcpowell.bsky.social @anthonycaruana.bsky.social
Just saw an article: “Pearl Jam albums rated worst to best.” Like, you’re trying to tell me anything they did is actually good? A more appropriate title would’ve been: “Why Pearl Jam blow donkeys and always have.”
