Inigo Montoya, from "The Princess Bride" (a late 30's/early 40's man with long black hair and a moustache, dressed in clothes Hollywood uses to signify "olden times") is saying one of his lines from the movie "You keep on using that word--I do not think it means what you think it means." In the movie, he says this to Vizzini, in response to the latter's use of "inconceivable." In this image, he is instead saying it to David Chalmers, a philosopher who has done work on the notion of conceivability.

He realized he wasn't powerful enough to force elected Republicans to accept Fuentes in the coalition, so how he's going to pretend like he never tried, and conservative Jews and Christians alike will probably let him

I'm sorry but "I hope my partner comes to share my religious beliefs, but she makes her own choices" is maybe one of the five *least* offensive things Vance has publicly said? It seems like a common sentiment in multifaith marriages, and he has said so, SO many worse things in the last year alone.

I think those benefits from responsible use only accrue in a world where we stop treating the thing we have like an intelligence and start thinking of it as a fancier autocomplete

The US was never antisemitic enough for him, women were never fully property enough for him, and he's nonetheless trying to piggyback off of a movement centered around specifically American nostalgia

Another way to think about it is dividing the maga coalition by how far back they want to go. The big blocs are the 90s (mild racism, lots of sexism and sexual harassment), the 1950s (segregation, no lgbtq+ rights), and the 1850s (slavery, dominance of religion) but Fuentes wants the 1250s.

Exactly. The danger he poses is inspiring lone wolf or maybe cell based terrorism: he's not going to get apolitical white Americans to start othering assimilated American Jews (which is when it would be time for Jews to think about leaving)

I think there is an effort to fully get rid of the veneer, but it hasn't yet succeeded and may fail. They can convert the terminally online and maybe the fox news addicts, but most republican voters are low info "trump is good at business" types. They need the veneer because they reject overt nazism

He's trying to do that. It has a shelf life of however long it takes for a story to crop up where actual electeds get connected to Fuentes and drop him like the plague he is. Too many of their voters are low info "Trump is good at business" types who need them to at least facially condemn nazism
