This has been a really rough few days. I recently learned of a controversy around our book THE PRINCESS IN BLACK AND THE PRINCE IN PINK. Some were outraged that Deseret Book carried it (a chain of bookstores in the west). Deseret Book appears to have complied to their demands and removed it. 1/

Two books for spooky season:
COFFIN MOON, Keith Rosson: Best modern vampire story ever (although it's set in the 70s).
THE TWISTED ONES, by T. Kingfisher: It lures you in with chatty good humor (especially about NPR Pledge Week) and a lovely dog...then slams the door and bites you in the dark.
I believe the plant that caught the sun here is called Efo Shoko, or Lagos Spinach. Absolutely magical.
I mean, just look at her. She’s perfect. A princess. And blooming in October. A gem.
The golden light was shifting around zinnia flowers resulting in many bad photos but also this one.
Look at the texture of this flower!
There is something about the transparency of these leaves and the glow that produces that lights me up.
Then you start thinking about physics, the speed of light and the movement of planets. The yellow star we live under. You fall in love with light and after knowing light you meet time and knowing time moves you to a whole other level of worship.
Get good enough and you can’t resist playing with light. Bouncing it. Bringing out mirrors so you can show it to itself and move it.
Golden shifting light on vibrant natural spaces is basically how you could trap any photographer. Get good enough and you start to become obsessed with light. Light is a particle and a wave and it has my heart. I love a long shaft of gold or the haze of blue. I love the color of bounced light.
Today I got to visit the Truelove Seeds farm where I wandered away from my group when became distracted by the quality of golden light coming over the tops of the evergreen trees in the late afternoon. It was golden, shifting fast, and illuminating the petals of blooming flowers like treasures.
Edinburgh, the isle of May, and St. Andrews.
My wife noted that I mostly post photos of the sky here on this app. This is true. Here are some more!
The colors are bursting through the growing season. Bees and birds are constant visitors. My little strip of land in the city is always active with color and movement. Hands down, the best trade I ever made.
The results have been spectacular. Blooms from early spring through October. Coneflowers and Beebalm. Butterfly weed and goldenrod.
Two years ago a friend was scammed by a fraudulent business which left her without a wedding photographer. I stepped in and photographed her wedding, and in return she used her horticultural skills to design and plant a garden in the back strip of my house in West Philly.

My wife brought home a sticker book and we were surprised to find a picture of me inside:
This is very relatable for me.

Just thinking about the guy who said DC would *never* let me write Superman and Batman.
