Agreed, Gerald. Much, if not all, of the attraction, was that it was forbidden fruit. My parents had hardly enough money for bare essentials, I got real good at *window shopping* at an early age. And most certainly appreciated the rare times we did get a toy for birthdays & Xmas. 🙏🏼🌞🕊️

For whatever it's worth, taking a Margaret Mead angle, as much as I dreamed of being a Cowboy, Police Officer, Solider, or a Secret Agent, with my very own plastic cap gun as a kid, I've never owned a gun, or been even vaguely interested in guns, as an adult. 🤷🏼‍♂️

As a kid, all I ever wanted was a toy cap gun. My mom made it perfectly clear she wouldn't buy me one.

I wouldn't relent. I'd express my desire for the cap gun, mom would shut it down. This went on for years, a disconsolate, repetitive cycle of "no," until one, glorious Xmas...🎁

Mom ignored it, dad was oblivious to it, but as a kid, I'd always find the toy aisle when my parents brought me along grocery shopping.

I'd stand there awestruck, gleefully taking in the cap guns, G.I. Joes, model cars, Slinkys... before being summoned back to the produce section.
