Electric bikes are the most energy efficient electric vehicle on the planet, capable of travelling up to 40 times further per kilowatt hour than a typical electric car.

That's means with 1kWh an electric bike can travel the equivalent distance from London to Nottingham.
All trips in London up to 30 minutes are more than twice as a fast as on a bike than motor vehicle and goes some way to explain the growth in micromobility across London.

On a regular bike - it’s possible to travel 10km in 30 minutes. Whilst 10km isn’t far, 74% of all car trips are less than 10km.
3/ In fact, 10 years ago I was using a car for this very job! Fast-forward to today and I now use an E-Cargo bike for 95% of my shopping trips including the supermarket and have done since 2020.

This is what carbon reduction and fun looks like. Buy an electric cargo bike today!
2/ ...what is extraordinary is that in the UK, most trips to the supermarket are made by car.
1/ There's nothing out of the ordinary about the weekly shop....
I'd imagine this is compounded in an SUV as they have terrible low-level visibility.
I will definitely do this next time! Thanks!
Apologies for confusing some people with mixed units - this is a result of simultaneously having to communicate with EU, North America and Japanese teams on a regular basis so I generally need "All the units" 🤣 Will definitely use 1m2 next time!
1 square mile would definitely make a lot of bread! This is referring to just 1 square metre (1m²).

That data point was derived from @mikebernerslee.bsky.social "There's No Planet B"
Over the course of a year, 1 SQM of solar panels can generate enough energy to power an E-Bike for 45,000+ miles (73,000+ km).
Where are the shared cargo bikes in London when you need them?

Would save me 20mins right now and a lot of heavy bag carrying 🏋🏾‍♀️
Glorious day for a quick lunchtime haul - transporting a baby and 120 litres of bark mulch back from Croxted Road Garden Centre (3.6 miles round trip - equivalent to 54% of all car trips).

🚤 Faster than a car.
💸 Cheaper than a car.
🌍 Better than a car.
Turns out it is possible to transport an old bench to the recycling centre without a car. Also faster and less messy 💪🏼
Celebrating 🌍 Earth Week 2025 🌍 with 2024 being my 2nd lowest annual mobility carbon emissions since 2002 (a student!), ending up at ~272kg CO2e.

⭐ Use micromobility for as many trips as you can (bikes, E-Bikes, E-Cargo bikes)
⭐ Use electric cars
⭐ Reduce flying
⭐ Eliminate 1 occupant car journeys
This is in my current backlog
Given that you can fit around 18 to 20 Lime bikes into the same space occupied by a motor vehicle and Lime reported 4.5 trips per vehicle per day back in 2020 - that's 90 trips being enabled versus 0 to 4 for the motor vehicle.

Also enabling mobility at a much lower cost for hard-working people.
Exeter Services now has 68 high speed chargers 🤯

Should help a lot of people decarbonise their holidays to this neck of the woods 💪🏾
We can also use geo-data and other tech used by autonomous vehicles to limit vehicles to the actual speed limit on every road.
In 2019 I conducted some research in Hackney and Southwark asking residents what they'd most like to transport on cargo bikes.

After children (72% of participants) and shopping (25%) - it was pets (4%).

Here is a dog in a cargo bike wearing a Christmas jumper (Jan `25)
"While China pollutes with impunity" - except that China reduced their YOY emissions by 0.5% vs USA who increased them by 1.3% largely down to surface transport. 🙈 🤦🏾‍♂️

Data from carbonmonitor.org/variation
How many Lime bikes can you fit in 1.5 car parking spaces?

At least 28.
Great to see articles like this from
@autocarofficial.bsky.social on why electric car manufacturers need to *obsess* over energy efficiency metrics.

Ultimately this means shifting away from autobesity and inefficient SUV form-factors 👏🏾
