An attractive male character who flirts with the player or is heavily infatuated with them would probably make the typical male demographic uncomfortable, which is a risk the devs dont ever want to take since theyre used to pandering towards them

Games that are supposedly targetted towards a "general audience" are actually just targetted towards dudes
The female demographic is always overlooked, and tropes that may appeal to them are never used or just made fun of in a parody like way

An interesting criticism i read is that feh underutilizes sharena as a main character despite employing multiple female characters as main heroines in their books...
I think its just goes to show which target audience they are aiming for
Female characters can only be waifus, but never protags
