A few years back, @hallublin.com sent me photos of Star Wars characters displayed at a car wash and… I still have both questions and concerns about this Yoda. Many questions and concerns. Many. Dear god... So, so many.

In the not-100-tistant future, one of the best TV Shows on - and off — the planet may disappear. Wouldn't that be a crime against humanity? the long-running, Peabody Award-winning series Mystery Science Theater 3000 needs a new home. We who are fans of the program don't want it to languish in the land of reruns and eventually disappear after MST3K: The Movie is released to theaters April 19th. So, Miss Piggy in a tub. There’s no water, just suds. I note how Frank Oz avoids getting Piggy’s head in the soap. Piggy’s heads are flocked (her body usually is, as well, but doesn’t appear to be here), & there’s no point in potentially ruining one just for a quick bit...

We can’t not have a Piggy and Dolly duet, right?

Keep an eye on Piggy’s guitar playing, and when Frank notices Piggy’s off-camera guitar player is still prominent enough in the mix that he should go back to mirroring it with Piggy, and he adjusts accordingly...

I’m always down for the joy of Frank Oz going hog wild on a bit, and utterly delighted by Dolly Parton’s infectious reaction to it... (Also, shout-out to the amazing Muppet costume designer Polly Smith & the incredible Muppet Workshop design & fabrication team for Piggy's outfit.)

By the time of this appearance in the late-80s on DOLLY, Miss Piggy had *such* a well-defined character from years of worldwide exposure on the immensely popular MUPPET SHOW that you could easily build a comedy sketch around that public knowledge of her personality…

Nothing against Miss Piggy’s current performer, who’s understandably constrained as a hired hand for corporate IP, but there was a wild abandon to Frank Oz’s guest appearances, particularly as Piggy, that came from having an ownership of the character. The energy of that investment is electric.

Thankfully, we do get a Kermit and Dolly Parton duet. I presume the vocals for this were recorded live, which just further drives home the mental dexterity of Jim singing & puppeteering at the same time, working to a monitor while being present in the scene. Skillful magic.
