The revolution in PDX will be inflatable.

Last night when I looked at this listing it said "200+ sold in last month". This morning it said "300+ sold in last month." Now...
Screenshot of amazon dot com listing for the inflatable frog costume currently known as the Portland Frog. It says "Currently unavailable. We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock." Then suggests that you might like other items and shows partial images of axolotl and gnome inflatable costumes

Thank you.

So far it seems Portland has decided to protest with clowns, costume tea parties, folks dancing in inflatable costumes and an emergency naked bike ride. 🚴🏼

I still think they are going to send in troops because that’s their plan. Pesky reality is not going to change that.

I live in Portland. They think if they repeat a lie enough they can create an excuse to occupy our beautiful city.

No one wants them here. It’s one big costly distraction and overreach of power.

King Boletes!!

Finally found what I was looking for at our ‘bare man’ mushroom spot. 🍄‍🟫🧵

My brother in Seattle just sent me a cute video of some blow up rainbow chickens that said ‘The cavalry has arrived in Portland’

I sent him back news that the emergency World Naked Bike Riders have been summoned because, if nothing else, Portland is going up the weird factor.

A wonderful assortment of mushrooms popped up over this sunny weekend. We found Kings, Chanterelles and a Cauliflower which we made into a wonderful soup.

As we are in Portland, we had to battle our way past gleeful cyclists to the Whole Foods to pick up the broccoli sprouts.

#SciArtSeptember Day 30: dream
Dreaming takes place in our brain. Here's a detail from my #SciArt #embroidery the wandering ghost (2024) of the brain and facial nerves.
An embroidery of a head and neck stitched in blue thread on green cloth. The brain is stitched in back stitch and the vagus nerves in the neck are stitched in chain stitch in perlé thread. The facial nerves are stitched in single strand chain stitch and back stitch. A thin dark purple line entwines the nerve on the forehead and some curved light green lines emanate from the eye.

Thank you! Loved painting them.

#sciartseptember prompt: Dream

During REM your brainwaves on an EEG look similar to when you are awake but your body is paralyzed! This state sometimes weaves strange yet meaningful connections.

‘Vernal Dreams’ draws on imagery from a sleep diary & uses sleep data to explore our nocturnal world.
Upside-down woman sleeping with a hair full of neurons, three snakes, a moth and chrysalis, and elaborate swirling patterns against a night sky filled with stars including neurotransmitter constellations. A week’s worth of hypnograms from the week surrounding March 27 in shades of blue ( sleep staging data) border the figure.

March 27, 2025 notes from my sleep diary:

"Dreams of snakes. The yellow snake and a garter snake were most vivid. They seemed unbothered by me watching them"

There’s a funny story about the spot where I found this bear’s head mushroom.

Storytime 🧵…

Gloved hand holding a large white shaggy mushroom. My first time finding a Bear’s head mushroom (Sp. Hericium abietis)

I went back to check this spot again. Still no boletes. No one else in the woods.

I did find this lovely Bear’s head mushroom growing off a fallen conifer.

I don’t know about other mushroom foragers, but I enjoy nicknaming good spots.

This one we now refer to as the ‘bare man spot.’
kindracrick.com
This was not a choice between a man and a bear.

It was just a bare man in the woods.

Who knew there was a third option?!
kindracrick.com
Some people apparently take forest bathing quite literally.
kindracrick.com
After checking out other parts of the woods for boletes, I eventually got back to my car.

Making my way to the highway, I saw the SUV and a now fully dressed man in a green tee shirt who gave me a friendly wave as I drove past. 👋
kindracrick.com
I quickly b-lined it into the brush to circumvent the bare man on the direct path back to my car.
kindracrick.com
I started making my way back to my car and saw that about 30 ft from where the SUV was parked there was a naked guy in the woods.

I didn’t stop to stare, but it seemed like maybe he was washing himself.
kindracrick.com
Although it had just rained, there were only a few shrimp mushrooms and some bright orange woolie chanterelles.

No boletes. 🍄‍🟫😢
kindracrick.com
So, I drove a few hundred yards further and parked at the trailhead. I quickly entered the woods and glimpsed a man near the SUV but hurried along a herd path to a mossy spot that had king boletes this week last year.
kindracrick.com
So a first for me while mushroom hunting: happening upon a naked guy in the forest.

On my way back from delivering artwork, I realized I’d be passing a location where I’d found boletes last year. When I got off the highway I saw a white suv parked where I typically would enter the woods.

The collector, a self-described naturalist, loved learning that a grouping of moths is called an eclipse, which I used in the naming of the piece.

Was thrilled this piece found a home with during ‘The Brain - is wider than the Sky’ exhibit at Gallery 114.

Sometimes before dawn, does your mind awaken and refuse to settle?

Insomnia feels like restless moths swarming, with thoughts drawn endlessly to the flickering light of my sleepless mind.

The Darkness Whispers, Eclipsing Dreams
24 x 30”

An upside-down woman with closed eyes and moths circling her flowing hair. A hypnogram of a week’s worth of sleep data frames the figure. Each vertical band represents a night of sleep, starting at 9 p.m. White indicates wakefulness, pale blue is REM, soft blue is light sleep, and deep navy marks deep sleep. These bands reveal the nightly cycles through dreams, deep restorative sleep, and bouts of wakefulness.
