Yeah, exactly my thoughts. When I started to study Japanese I quickly realized that I wouldn't have a practical need to write (as I wasn't planning to go to Japan) so I skipped it. Which is kinda the "standard practice" today. Even still, this argument pops up when I say "I can write Japanese"

Really interesting quick read on the accuracy of medical diagnosis by current chat AI. 70% of the diagnosis had at least 1 error, and in 13% of the cases the AI literally made up the entire reference out of this air. This is a promising field but we are not there yet.
