The blackened doom cover of the Pigface/Reznor song “Suck” that I didn’t know I needed. Flattens all time and space. Am I 14 or 44?… youtu.be/nfIYUuaf6Ak?...

(Forgive me my cynicism. The new Vertigo lineup looks great. But it’s hard to have any faith in DC/Warner at this point.)

Of course each of these books will just get canceled the moment one of the creators say something controversial.
When the Room Stops Spinning (on the end of Vertigo Comics)
DC just announced a Vertigo Comics revival with 10 new titles. To mark the occasion, here’s what I wrote about Vertigo in my June 25, 2019…

Preventing fair elections by outlawing or harassing Democratic and Democratic-aligned organizations worries me more than the military occupation stuff in some ways. Huge damage to democracy but without the visuals that spur outrage and resistance

President Donald Trump's threatened crackdown on the finances and activities of liberal non-profits and groups opposed to his agenda is a multi-agency effort with top White House aide Stephen Miller playing a central role, according to officials.

“The risk of buying into the idea that the AI bubble is bursting is that it risks lulling us into a false sense of comfort… The task now is not to wait for collapse, but to organize for control.“ jacobin.com/2025/09/arti...
If the AI Bubble Pops, It Won’t Be the End
Like past waves of automation, AI isn’t going away. Boom or bust, the fight is over whose interests it will serve.

I was planning to get one today, but the Rx requirement is already in place, so I’ll have to wait. Feels ridiculous.

That said, there have been a number of “longform” creator owned series, mostly from Image, that don’t rival something like One Piece but can’t be dismissed as fly by night movie pitches, like Saga, Monstress, Chew, Kieran Gillan’s books… Something is Killing the Children is getting up there too.

… And when, say, someone as obscure as Peacemaker can be repurposed in new ways.

I kinda see it as more of an issue for what Heidi calls the “big lie” companies that are just throwing ideas over the fence to see what sticks and then moving on, never building anything with staying power.

I think what @comixace.bsky.social is getting at is from a biz perspective, the Jump model is eating the big two’s lunch in terms of generating net new IP. I guess the question is if it really matters when legacy IP has the staying power it does…

The way I’d put it: Manga and North American comics are not in competition with each other as art forms, but Marvel and DC are surely in competition with manga publishers for consumer dollars, shelf-space, and exploitable IP.
