I’d note that currently if you equip the twisted sword by hacking it in, it shows a trance DOWN effect on the stat screen, unlike the thorn ring.

I love VQ's protags. Titus wants so badly to be seen as a good noble, a man of the people, but at the end of the day his ambition is his guiding light. So he's envious and insecure about Storch actually being that ideal of a hero: he has zero interest in power, and only fought because it was right.

I know there's some hacks that are supposed to be inspired by Shining Force (like FE Bloodlines), but having not played them myself I don't know much besides "has more races than humans and dragons". I've heard good things though!

This is very true, I think, of the attractiveness of the format for people looking to tell an RPG-like story (notwithstanding the maniacs who are, in fact, implementing walkaround sections in their Fire Emblem hacks).
