Especially for the humble MIDI format, no longer bound in the public sphere as microscopic files that bleeped some melody you could download for free, I'm amazed at how far music has come, alongside my own understanding of how it works under the hood.

SMG2 is a great time capsule for the memories.

It's funny, then, that nowadays game music of all stripes and styles are welcomed with open arms as part of a title's overall aesthetic, and that the warmth of nostalgia has led to fusions of things like chiptune blending with live instruments (or recreations of them, at least).

Might of just been the arms race of technological advancement in the gaming sphere back in the 2000s, but I remember people SLAMMING on the MIDI format as if it just couldn't accentuate the delicacies of music while Kondo was busy cooking back then either live or on a computer, the mad lad.

I'd have to dig around to find the exact interview, but I swear there someone on the SMG team said something like "Not every orchestra piece is with live instruments, and you probably can't tell!" and like, man, what a foreshadow to the power of VST instruments. But people fought about this!

Playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 brought back memories I had at the time, that in hindsight, really was a precursor to my pursuit of music creation.

Remember when it was a big deal on the internet about if a game had a live orchestra for its sound? Like, people thought this was a BIG DEAL. /🧵

The sad truth to this is I've stockpiled several novels the past two years, including but not limited a bunch of X-Wing books, but needed to get myself into a mood to sit down and read.

Apparently the secret to this is to make your book funny, it makes my brain smile and clap

Besides voraciously consuming Sonic IDW comics now, I have also began reading another book at long last! Finally decided to start reading 40K's Ciaphas Cain books.

Gosh darn it, I'm such a sucker for dry humor. I keep laughing at these lines? Turns out books are good??

For my own sanity, I stopped reading skill boxes a long time ago and now simply treat my heroes like action figures:

I bash my guy into their guy, and if the game says their guy disappears then I continue slamming my toys together going "Pew pew pew!"
