The UK isn’t ready for that and they do not qualify.

As things stand Americans should probably not offer their advice…to anyone.

BBC News explain that because of Brexit, Brits will be photographed and have their fingerprints taken when going into the EU, as the UK now is a third country

BBC News forget to explain that the UK helped create these rules when we were part of the EU because we wanted stronger border control

A generation does indeed seem to be needed.

I chose the mute button.

A lost cause.

That's quite offensive. You apply to the organisation as is, or you don't apply.

They are a threat. They haven’t changed.

They would have been a disaster in NATO.

For the foreseeable future keeping Russia out of all things European is the way to go.

If they were to be dismantled into smaller pieces…who knows maybe some of them could prove possible to deal with.

An independent Scotland might find it easier to join than the UK.
kresten2.bsky.social
…no opt outs.

All or nothing.

The sense of entitlement/exceptionalism will have to be eradicated first.

The UK would also need to thoroughly reform in order to even qualify.

It is not going to be easy or fast…but it will of course be worth it.

It indeed wasn’t a good idea.

Actions have consequences and all that.

It was self inflicted, as you say, the EU had nothing to do with it.

The question is how many would like to join the EU when they realise that the EU is never again going to treat the UK as if it is special. There will be…
kresten2.bsky.social
…better than that (and smarter).
kresten2.bsky.social
…that this was not the case.

An independent Scotland will quickly realise that entitlement/exceptionalism will get them absolutely nowhere.

Scotland would find it very difficult to be isolated on the very fringe of Europe.

Personally, I don’t think that Scotland would behave like the UK…they are

Indeed.

Applicants do not dictate to the EU. It is not a negotiation.

The applicant applies under article 49. The EU tells the applicant where it falls short.

They either comply or remain on the outside.

The UK thought that they could boss the EU around when they left. They have been shown…

Niall is right: the euro is part of the package.

What gives outsiders the right to dictate on entry requirements?

Another one undoubtedly will tell the EU that 3 out of 4 is a good result and the EU should dump Freedom of Movement.

It's exceptionalism that kills off everything!

Undermining the EU and at the same time expecting preferential treatment.

The sense of entitlement is rather strong with some Brits 🤷🏻‍♂️.
kresten2.bsky.social
Joining the EU will only be possible if the entire EU acquis is agreed to. That includes the Euro.

No exceptions for new members.

As I said being profoundly anti EU tends piss off EU citizens.
kresten2.bsky.social
It is the same for all 3rd country citizens.

I'm partial to them myself.

But the difference between Hesselden and all of us who hold him in contempt is that we accept the idea of responsibility and common goals, while he just expects a continent to give him what he wants. He's got no interest in a stronger EU, just a more accomodating one.
kresten2.bsky.social
It is not bullying and you have been told repeatedly that he blocks everyone so that no pro EU people can counter the lies he spreads.

He is profoundly anti EU and only pro himself.

It doesn't take much effort to find a fair number of people who hold him in contempt. In itself, that should say something.

If he hasn't disgusted you yet, that's your experience and that's fine. But there are reasons so many of us have no patience whatsoever for the selfish prick.
kresten2.bsky.social
Indeed.

He is anti EU.

Constantly seeking to undermine EU unity.

That's him. No interest in a stronger, more prosperous EU. No interest in fixing the UK so it can contribute. All he ever wants is some of the advantages of being in the EU and he can't understand why the EU won't give it to some third country nobody for no reason.

He wants the UK to have been able to go “cherry picking” British people having all the rights as if it’s still an empire but none of that for other countries. English students still participating the Erasmus project etc etc etc.

One of his less endearing qualities.

I still wear it as a badge of honour that the cunt blocked me 2 years ago for defending my wife’s birthright when he was ranting against Irish people and how they didn’t deserve to be treated differently to Brits

All I said was “hating on the Irish won’t help” and it was an instant block 🤣
