I speak to my colleagues about how teaching is like this now every period, every day.

This is a global issue that needs dealing with at a much higher level than individual schools/counties/countries
Everyone should be able to understand the difference between brand and generic medicines i.e Nurofen and Ibuprofen
I have been divorced 18 years and without fail I get a birthday card from my Smells’ grandparents. They mean so much to us still
Renting is a nightmare. Looking to move for a few reasons (largely poor condition of my current house; increasing rent and no repairs).

I’ve seen it all now - rent discounts for ‘the over 60s’. £300 off pcm properties.
I think the term ‘anxiety’ has been misused by some children and their families, to the detriment of others with genuine anxiety disorders. No one seems prepared to accept that this could be the case - or the few of us who do get lynched
Not new guidance at all, as many of you will know. The o ly ‘guidance’ I could find was from the Daily Fail branding it as ‘woke’.

To play devil’s advocate though, are we actually helping pupils develop resilience by not checking their learning though?
Possibly. I’ll praise kids regularly for good and hard work, but I’m not rewarding any old thing especially if its just expected 🤷🏻‍♀️
I understand why teachers do it, but as you said, it’s a tough world out there
I have been told to do that though, and I know many colleagues who do it
I know. We’re really setting the kids up to fail when we do that
It’s basically rewarding bare minimum and lowering expectations; “Have a sweet for not snapping your pencil in half and lobbing it across the room” no.
But I’m expected to ‘manage their behaviour’. They’ve no intrinsic motivation- not only for my subject. I resent the idea of bribing them to get them to behave
All I can do with them is fire fight and I hate it. I can’t be the best version of my teaching self with them and I hate it. I hate it for me and them.
Someone once said on here to me that being a good teacher is context dependent and they are proof.

I can do my best teaching with them. They are FLYING and making loads of progress.

It makes me resent who I am with my Year 9s & 10s. Where they’re rude, disruptive and often dangerous. 4/4
They parrot thing back to me, which started accidentally:

Me: “if it’s heavy…”
Them: “it’s expensive!”

Me: “That sounds like and ish-you and not…”
Them: “an ish-me” (we say this one with love)

And me: “If we’re talking…”
Then: “then we’re not listening”
3/n
Support each other. They are helpful, kind and show each other compassion.

They are also hilarious. 3/n
They are Masters of white board work.

We can switch from books to white boards at warp speed at they don’t miss a beat 2/n
I haven’t taught year 7s in years and mine are an utter joy.

Here are some things that they’ve been doing this first term:

They call me ‘bestie’ which means their ‘best teacher’

Waited for 10 mins outside my lab at end of break. Then yelled “she’s here!” and dropped to their knees 1/n
Yes - I’m using a lot of those and everything that’s still in my head or my Big Book of Biology (my heavily annotated spec)
We’re same exam board as my old school, but my previous HoD deleted anything I made so I don’t have anything. It then takes additional time to put everything in the MAT style PPT. This seem to be taking the longest
These means we’re making lessons ALL THE TIME and it’s exhausting. I don’t want to work like this.

Think I’m just too fed up of now to see the light.
Not going to lie, current workload is really getting me down. Currently working every evening and most of my weekend.

Dept have nothing suitable to use from last year (old HoD wasn’t much cop) and we’ve got entirely new dept. We’re all great but we’ve got nothing to work from 1/2
We had one shared as a family. I remember learning to edit codes for Sonic with my friend in secondary school.

Before that it was spending HOURS hand drawing maps of Magic Land Dizzy

Being a [single] teacher is really rubbish. Washing machine broken and engineers are only Monday to Friday. So have had to book for half term as can’t take time off for it and Smells it at uni.

Makes me so cross sometimes.
